Sauntering aimlessly
Three white doves
Hovering in the sky
It was pathetic
Did we allow it
Yes we did
Unwittingly
Unashamedly
They were left without directions
How could it be
They were to bring peace!
So there was no olive branch
In their beaks
But then they were still
Doves of peace
The sky was peaceful
All blue and bright
Vibrant with colors
Dwellings below all quiet
No conflagration
Nor bombs or drones
But the same could not
Be said of areas of conflicts
Around the globe
Why?
There was no political will
Nor a concerted effort
Or a conscience
Nor a desire
ugh...i wish we would give peace a true chance...i think it is possible in pockets but there always seems to be some unrest that we get drawn into...i wonder what it would take for peace to break out on the large scale...
ReplyDeleteGood message, Hank. Somehow it seems the world never moves closer to peace. There are always new disturbances in one place or another or continuation of old ones as well. But one can still continue to hope.
ReplyDeleteIt would be wonderful if peace reigned supreme,
ReplyDeleteExcellent write and great to read.
Yvonne.
Hank on your sidebar you have my blog as Words From The Heart" my blog is called CHASING RAINBOWS.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
Corrected Yvonne! Thanks

Be nice to come due, many places can do it on their own, but then some other place just ruins it for the rest, always something
ReplyDeleteI must say.. the world are heading into darker times.. to me it darkens the colors, just like in your words.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your write, but would say it seems somewhat too direct at the subject like you are telling me instead of showing me. >KB
ReplyDeleteI like how you framed the 3 doves as messengers of peace ~ Give a peace a chance certainly ~ Thanks for playing Hank ~
ReplyDeletei wish we would give peace a chance more often... and those peace messengers come in all size and shapes..
ReplyDeleteSo clever, Hank. The first stanza had me smiling and then I saw what direction you were taking this. We truly need those doves to show us the way.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful ideal - though it is hard for a population to rise above systemic subjugation and brutalization.
ReplyDeletePeace always deserves a chance... hopefully the powers that be will realize this one day.
ReplyDeleteTrue and sad that what takes place in the world around us bears little or no ressemblance with the painting. We are in dire need of peace messengers.
ReplyDeleteWe truly are our own worst enemy. I wonder what the doves think of us...? A very clever story, because at the very start I didn't think the ending was where you would be taking us...
ReplyDeleteYes..peace is always the best choice! :)
ReplyDeletetimely words as we once again stand near war.
ReplyDeleteIf only we would give peace a chance..a strong message for the world to hear..
ReplyDeleteHow true! What's happening in Ukraine is a manifestation of the unwillingness to give peace a chance. I just wish the west would let the Ukrainians and Russians work it out for themselves.
ReplyDeletePoor doves "they were left without directions!" Very cool poem Hank!
ReplyDeleteOh no...why won't we give peace a chance. Who doesn't love peace? I don't get it...those doves have a real mission to accomplish. Makes me so wistful...and confused...
ReplyDeleteMay there be peace every where.
ReplyDeleteThe painting def lends itself to the 'song'....I always wonder if we are closer to having peace than hundreds of years ago and I think 'yes', yet so far to go as we all do not get involved.
ReplyDeleteI chose this same painting - and isn't it amazing how we saw such different things in it! A harder take, but yes, those doves are really obvious now that I look at it through your eyes.
ReplyDeleteA very nice take. We all really should give peace a chance.
ReplyDeleteThat last stanza is, sadly, all too true. Peace is always there, hovering overhead, if we will only look.
ReplyDeleteYou raise excellent questions here...if only we knew what made for true peace!
ReplyDelete(i chose to write on this same peace-filled painting, where we'd all like to live.)
Peace like truth can be illusory; merely a respite, and pool of calm in the eye of chaos--love the three white dove approach from you though, the power of three, the trinity; interesting take on the artwork.
ReplyDeleteOne might argue that without the opposite of peace, how can you have peace.... I'm not one of them. I don't know if it is the doves, but there is something very peace-full about this picture. You definitely bring it to light with this write.
ReplyDeleteyes i worry that our world's money and power functions at such a remote distance from the impact that we can't find the initiators of war anymore. peace has become all you can do in your day in your local context and everything else seems impossible to engage with in a useful way.
ReplyDeletevery thoughtful....loved the way you repainted that pic.....so wonderful!
