stationary – still, unmoving

curious and hoarse with wonder
seeing the lorry remaining
stationary parked in front

and idle not unlike a horse
tied to a post waiting

but what can be the bother
for how stubborn a donkey is
it can still be lured to move
with a carrot dangling
in front of its nose

it has everything to do with
the driver for to look after him
well is to motivate him to do
wonders in the job beyond
one's expectations

however, if any dissatisfaction
is imposed or is felt by him then
whatever persuasion or motivation
that comes his way will not impact
as much on him

it is human nature to accord

Images in the Sky - An Adventure with Ms Zora Hurston

                                                                                                   Author: Neenekraj
Image1:  The Original Photo Challenge image (here)

Image2: A cropped-up part portion likened to an Alligator's head

Image3: A cropped-up part portion likened to a menacing wolf

Image4: A cropped-up part portion likened to a lizard's head

Interestingly, it is much fun to look up to the sky and to discover unending images as much as the imagination allows. With a casual sweep fast and unthinking a plethora of sub-images is discerned. It would be much clearer when cropped to the likeness of an animal or of a weird creature of sorts.

Missed opportunities are aplenty as to how often one looks up to Heaven's expanse except perhaps when extending both hands asking for forgiveness.

Image2 and image4 can be combined to show an angry 'mother alligator' in a protective mood with having its 'baby alligator' swimming in front in an artistic stance facing the opposite direction to its 'mother'

Very much like Zora Hurston looking for ways where she could make herself heard that -  No, I do not weep at the world – I am too busy sharpening my oyster knife.
(144 words)

Process Note: What does Zora Hurston mean by "I am too busy sharpening my oyster knife"?
The quote comes from the personal essay "How It Feels to be Colored Me." in World Tomorrow (1928)

Hurston makes the comment in the context of other writers' attitudes toward their blackness at the time in which the essay was written—1928. Hurston says that she does not "weep at the world" because she is "too busy sharpening her oyster knife." -  Wiki

“the world is your oyster” means that you can achieve anything you wish in life or go anywhere because you have the opportunity or ability to do so.

Gone were the days
Of fun and laughter
Of sounds of good music
Of melodious violins

Gone were the feelings
Of wanting to be an adult
Of frets tumbles and trauma
To protest and do adult things
And get rewarded

Gone were the backyard
That witnessed broken bones
Of tears of childhood experience
And the triumph of keeping
Boyhood strength that bridged
hidden talents

Gone were the neighborhood
Whose kids have grown
And flew to new nests
Some with no strings attached

Gone were the houses
Close to your heart
Now in ruins
To make way for developers
To enrich their belly
But we still witness
The antics of those vying
For higher office where
brittle rivalries were rampant

Gone were the players of old
Replaced by new ones
Where the game is still the same
Only the players have changed

All in a row in an orderly fashion

What did he do wrong that they did right
It was akin to stalking a beautiful lady
Surreptitiously on the sly
Not knowing how she would react
When the moment came upon discovering
that there was an admirer following her tracks

It crossed his mind on how to correct the malady
If only he knew how as he kept eyeing the wonders
of succulent tomatoes, cabbages, and red chillies
to no end. It was a long ride to getting green fingers

She had the good sense

His guilt feelings seemed too heavy
He should not emulate the mangosteen
The outer skin is hard
He has to give way much
She was moved he thought
It all seemed too easy to hurt her

He held designs
to share a lot with her
He held promise of things easy
Blooms all the way along the trail
Forget minor inconveniences, he thought
The writing was on the wall
He could have seen it
He should!

She had said ‘no’
Why did she change her mind?

He has learned that much
about her to know her
He had known her that long
He had known her all his life!

She had gone through so much herself
He had not been that easy a guy to please

She’ll give in again this time
It had worked even

Lingering in throes of secrecy
Not really worth a dime

He searched his conscience
He thought he had it made
Sweetie Pie, he even gave a name
But she would rather have him dead

What did he do wrong
Whispering sweet nothings?
Choice of words all along
Not open to feigning

Not wanting to give way without a fight

If they can find their own tufts
But for weeks as always the case
It’s space and acting terse
Instinct determines the pace

Just a quibble and they erupt
They take positions aggressively
The equation is quick to disrupt
They bite lash and gnarl incessantly

They just go berserk without warning
Like the dog in the manger reacting
Not unlike a human provoked parrying

To wrench away at victory
Insisting to resolve to fight

My desire is stunted I am left flustered

Trimeric was invented by Charles A. Stone.
1. A Trimeric has 4 stanzas
2. The first stanza has 4 lines
3. The other three stanzas have 3 lines each
4. The first line of each stanza is a refrain of the corresponding line
in the first stanza (so 2nd stanza starts with the second line, the third
stanza starts with the third line, etc.).
5. The sequence of lines, then, is abcd, b – -, c – -, d – -.
Note: No other rules on line length, meter, or rhyme.
but Hank kept the rhyming

crimson yellow peeping over the horizon
getting brighter by the minute but not fully
just stirring up and still dizzy feeling broken
already sunrise with birds chirping incessantly

getting brighter by the minute but not fully

felt like throwing up but kept his senses easy

just stirring up and still dizzy feeling broken
reflecting sadly he was not where he belonged
an idler not used to staying on the job for long

already sunrise with birds chirping incessantly
yet to receive the stipend he was to get rightly
but none seemed to bother he sensed ruefully

To include the following sentence:
“Crucial to finding the way is this: there is no beginning or end"

Most perplexing to the mind. Having to seek a remedy seem the second-best
thing to do. Crucial to finding the way is this: there is no beginning or end. One
is invariably stuck midway. To move forward is equally impossible as to retreating
backward. The idea is to make a start and then move, just move. It is bound to
lead somewhere. It makes it easier then to decide mindfully of the resources available
and the stamina to sustain. It is more to favour going forward. To adopt this
stance is to be progressive going along with prospects of discovery, and fulfilment.

By extension, it is going towards the end, expecting to reach a goal working on a
prospective target. On the contrary to go to the beginning is to be searching for
indications of a likely direction with prospects of keeping on searching.

extending a stretched hand to go beyond
to a scene yonder across pristine skies
to seek an endearment spellbound
singing across daffodils in the wilds

ungainly steps break over fast waters
that plunge icy cold furiously down below
lamenting a closet of life's woes that enter
into an open abyss of melted white snow

resolute resolution stamps a hard wallop
to readily claim the little pieces and get on
pride of lofty goals a little more assured
to grab the elusive rainbow the ultimate aim

Sports, the arts and music are on offer

People see what makes sense to them,
reality notwithstanding nonetheless
Is it not a brilliant idea to provide for everyone
Where does it say one is not at liberty to have fun

Take volleyball hockey golf athletics even soccer
Whether individual or team games does it matter
Where the fairer sex have excelled to great heights
Women as a sports personality have all the rights

Do not think only men should be allowed to marvel
It may just be thoughtful to offer women their all
Sports, the arts and music are on offer just as much
For women are made for it with the feminine touch

blowing bright sea stretching broken
hum common rising moon shining

basking in the sun
taking in the tan
blowing bright by the sea
not any more to worry

the stretching breeze seeks
to brush by my cheeks
broken lashings of the waves
slow hums in low octaves

free to laze easy
common latitude from being busy
rising moments of solitude
feelings of gratitude
no one to intrude
heightened my mood

nights are just as breezy
the moon above held sway
shining in a good way
none that I’m seeing
engulfed all my being

not a bother in the world
but then where is everybody?

a dipper comprising soya sauce with cut onions, chilly and a
dash of celery or mint. Yummy, my mouth just waters!

This is a revamp of an earlier posting

Jambu tree, at last
You finally spawned some buds
Some years of waiting

The toil and fond care
Overzealous  manuring
Leaves greener than green

December arrived
Wondering what variety
Just eager to see!

The water apple ( Eugenia aquea) is variously known as jambu (Malaysia)  djamboo wer (Indonesia ) tambis (Philippines) chom-phu-pa ( Thailand) and chambekka (Malayalam, India) This is indicative of its wide distribution in South East Asia.

It is succulent and crunchy, some varieties are sweet whilst some are sour. It is available all year round

Just over a week ago I noticed my Jambu tree had spawned its first flowers. I’ve nurtured and applied fertilizers regularly for the past couple of years. I had initially applied NPK but I realized it was not good for the soil. I later got treated organic manure and had positive results  The leaves came with a rich dark green and more luscious than before. This was the day that I had waited for.

must be fun but
must I wait in the open,
in the cool night air?

no, save the bother
have someone thumb hard on your
head, you will see stars

Hoping for life's blessings

Image: Fighting for a Cause (here)

10 of 12 given words:
bounty chase open odds grounds
dishevelled time rain thunder men

A jaundiced view through glassy eyes
A bounty revealed but chose to remain calm
Never to chase and rightly not to defy
Open to conjecture on how to run

An odds-on favourite to be a champion
On grounds of honesty not to alter the mode
Needless to assume it lacked such a burden
A damper to all efforts to lighten the load

Strong soul dishevelled in thinking at times
Rain and thunder considered not a difficulty
Given to venture through even without a dime
Hoping for life's blessings in all sincerity

Walked on alone none who owed him a living
Made up his mind to stay clear to be strong
Men were expected to be always forgiving
Made his way forward, he would have won!

I cannot have you
I cannot touch you
The most I can see
Are two reflections
How cruel fate can be
Can I be set free?

I can see you in my dreams
I can see you everywhere
But you are nowhere

My choices are limited
My yearnings are beyond reach
My emotions are beyond reasons
My wants are beyond redemption
I’m vulnerable
Set me free
Answer me!

Rivers are a source of life and energy

                                                                                       Author: Taxiarchos228
Image:  Advancing undeterred (here)

the 12 given words:
river, hills, advance, noise, darkness, broken,
water, clean, silk, placid, curled, forever

free-flowing river meandering
down from the hills from little rivulets
advancing, glistening in the morning sun
upon reaching leveled grounds in darkness
feigned orderly nonchalant laziness

moving unbroken around strong boulders
obligatory in extending life support
clean water smooth as silk
to living creatures seeking refuge
placid cleanly curled up
in solemn agreement to provide solace

but what of deluge splayed across the plains
where forever a menace to the peace
undermining flora and fauna
lashing downstream
flattening everything in its path
in shambles unaccounted for
of dwellings, limbs of animals and man
threatening the livelihood of countless

but wait!
rivers are a source of life and energy
benefitting mankind in all of its propensity
in good times when cleverly harnessed
magnanimous in its kindness

venture out push for a long ride

                                                                                              Author:Johann Jaritz
Image: Unchartered territory (here)

to include the quotation:
'roads, where we are going we don't need roads'
-  from the movie, Back to the Future, 1985

like wearing other's shoes
we could understand better their blues
an awakening not burdened with guilt
a distraction not likely to cause a jolt
not realizing what that entailed
often wondering why they failed
choose not ourselves to restrain
if we could feel the pain

go then find from where you could get
the love searing your heart you had not met

to discover where the road leads
go for a  wholesome thrust till it bleeds
roads, where we are going we don't need roads
just travel light not to unwisely overload

give it all you’ve got,
give it a shot.
when you’re done,
reflect on your wants
if it’s tough
give it a laugh

venture out push for a long ride
you never know until you’ve tried

now opening up to old age

Elephants Never Forget (here)

the 10 of 12 given words:
Define Shallow Lip Biting
Behind Remote Seduction Believe Float
Guttural (harsh-sounding speech sound produced in the throat)
Dizzy Tremble

given to niceties hard to define
shallow in thinking when
growing up but life had been forgiving

lip biting in challenging times
and trudging behind most of the time
now opening up to old age

remote seduction of life's blessings
now more to believe towards
the pay-back of good times
to helping people in difficulties

health-wise afflictions float
slowly to creep in, on the quiet
but progressively in guttural
stops of speech interruptions

testing times on hold
dizzy at times or arrested wholly
at work or at play one takes
the middle road

thankful for the morrow
that offers so much for those
who strive at their own pace
to tremble along mindful
of forgetfulness that old age
brings forth

must this happen, just wondering why!

                         Author: Catrin Welz-Stein

Image:  Privileged with a Twin (here)

flapping merrily full of promise
colourful as a rainbow in intensity
bid me a time, for I wish
to whet my appetite on all the variety

serve me the garnish that I may devour
for the myriads of possibilities.
the goodness of being together
in all sincerity with you as company

blessed with a twin never been a bore
you and your wonderful ways
we just hit it off more than just a sister
from where we left off on any day

ever so thoughtful of my feelings
and idiosyncrasies all bewildered
rash and brash but ever so loving.
young hearts we longingly offered

never impinging on the absurd
must this happen, just wondering why
leaving questions unanswered
on the day you said goodbye!

the 10 of 12 given words:
mundane bedroom apply trapeze
swing act gravity need work feat

not for the mundane but the graceful
not to dance in the bedroom but the ballroom
one-two-three, one two three a move so beautiful
waltzing as fast as the eyes could consume

very much as a high-flying trapeze artiste
to swing with long strides to the left
an act seemingly to defy gravity so polished
measured steps to the right not bereft

of movements across the length of the floor
a need to work with precision so refined
a feat to demand an encore
to apply the required move so defined
