taking care of the body mass is not a lone effort

final margin lone wide, counted

lost as a matter of thickening bliss so blessed
softening of the choices accorded by chance
wretched on the belly side thumping the chest
overtaken by the desire to be slim for once

such loss of desire of a disheartened soul
stemmed by the final effects of memory loss
fatal to a harmonious will of being bold
when the age-old act of dieting is enforced

how else the margin of error may be overcome
as seen by those left unashamedly in old folks homes
sadly the case as experienced by the elderly ones'
when minders unwittingly left them on their own

taking care of the body mass and all of its sensitivities

care counted as a commitment and a responsibility
to proudly uphold the expected act of being noble

Life's Lessons in A (thorny) Nutshell

                                                                     Author: Dominicus Johannes Bergsma

Prompt: 1
Things to remember if you're
not rich and famous yet

Prompt:2

the given words are:
rough and smooth
– sit and stand

not to be pushed into a corner
nor to be kicked down to the bottom
it may be rough but to play it easy
to bid a smooth response for jagged edges

not to be too close to the precipice
choose to stay around the bend
to react fast and never to sit around
but stand up to be counted
for business will never progress on autopilot

retreat in case of a reversal
far quicker to be able
to fight for another day
and rise up the peak again

to forge a line of thinking
where the sky is the limit
move and the jigsaw will fall into place
not to wait around but to grab
for the returns to riches
would require one to be proactive

One can well then sleep

whir ((of something rapidly rotating)

It’s not how you fall it’s how you get back up…a far cry from the whir
of life's challenges not totally strange but rightly sucking it up. It can be
argued from dawn to dusk if left to chance it can be demeaning.

But unlike bad habits, one is forgiven when the embarrassment is not
material not when it is considered a little amusing. Wrapped in a towel
for instance the guests are left astounded with you opening the door not
realising it leads to the hall

It is like dipping your finger to taste the soup you enjoy doing but not in
front of the tiny tot who had been cautioned earlier for doing the same
thing

Just smile not appearing idiotic perhaps sheepishly mumbling saying it
is normal sometimes not sapped of precious energy when appreciating
good things in life

The tiny tot may not comprehend it fully but he knows he is in good
company

this is no threat

what a raucous din what a disturbance
it had not seemed to be at peace
why the necessity to be anti-social
it was such a bother passing by
it would best be summed up as a circus
not the usual one for kids to have fun
but a derogatory description a menace

there was music blaring of differing sounds
from varied kinds of instruments
punctuated with shouts or loud laughter
reminiscences of childhood happenings
upon passing the quaint little house

fast forward ten years on what a wonder
a mansion with all the trimmings of success
of occupants given to triumphant callings
of accomplished musicians and music
soothing to the ears to be admired

so this was how it was growing up
with little boys and girls in the vicinity
bent on making music as a career
focussed on a direction unencumbered
but seeing sweat and tears translated
in later years to be makers of the arts

Concluding Kimie's formative years before university

1. Kimie's Foray into the Game of Rugby

Image1: Kimie Being Presented with
the Most Improved Player Award

Hank's second grandee Norhezry Hakimie aka Kimie had an interest in the game
of rugby. Sometime in January 2016 Kimie joined the KL  Saracens Rugby Club
together with a number of his school-mates to get to know the game better

Hank had posted earlier on one of his training episodes on Jan 03, 2016 (here) This
was at the UM padang where they normally converged for organised training. At
other times they would gather at the small field in Damansara Utama together with
other boys from schools nearby.

2. The Most Improved Player
Kimie's inclination for the game was at a high level. It helped somehow with
his sudden physical growth towering over many of the other boys. His prowess and
physique stood out in games that he was voted as the most improved player in 2018.

Image:2 The Under-16 Most Improved
Player of the Year Plaque presented in 2018

4. Image:3 Kimie's Final Semester Result
Kimie was most fortunate to have been offered a place at the UIA following the
release of his SPM results. He had to do his studies at the UIA's Gambang campus
in Pahang which meant he had to sacrifice participation in his games. Just as well!

5. The Dean's List
Kimie is reading for an Engineering and Computer Science Degree. He secured
3 As and 2 Bs in his Final 3rd Semester with a 3.73 GPA and was placed on the
Dean's List, (with an eventual CGPA of 3.31 for his Foundation)

6.  Gombak Campus
Kimie will be reporting to the Gombak UIA Campus this October 2021 to continue
in his First Year degree course.

7. Norman Hazrin
Kimie will be joining elder brother Norman in the UIA who is also reading for
the same Engineering Degree who is now into his 3rd Year come this October 2021.

what to make of it
now that it's gone

sadly childless amid cries of hurts

what then of the path not taken
softness of touch mirrors caressing
had not lady luck smiled often?

eyes closed dreaming all in awry
thoughts of  childhood innocence
raced back through his memory
unflinching thinking of the outcome

frail, wild, endless, helpless, drift
empty, choked, seeks, ride, lonely, candle

frail physically and lost in time
wild in imagination waiting inline
endless worries for a mother's well-being
helpless alone and wondering

who is there to accord assistance
six months in the underworld's far distance
and six above still lacking mother's feelings
where's the drift but empty of blessings

a lonely mother choked with emotions
seeks solace in desperation
why must Zeus impact an imbalance
life is more than taking a ride in motion

not spied yet the intended light
at the end of the tunnel overly bright
but a candle dying to live
desperate wanting to give
its flickering flames
taking the blame
for spoils of mankind

Background Perspective:
Persephone was the beautiful daughter of Ceres, the goddess of agriculture, fruit, and grains. She brought the spring with her and scattered flowers around her. Her uncle, Hades, the dark god of the underworld and the dead fell in love with her. One day, as she was enjoying the flowers and the sunshine he burst out of a cave and carried her off.
Persephone’s mother, Ceres, was distraught. She set off to search for her daughter. She neglected her duties as an agricultural goddess – crops failed and the people starved.

Images in the Sky - An Adventure with Ms Zora Hurston

Image2: A cropped-up part portion likened to an Alligator's head

Image3: A cropped-up part portion likened to a menacing wolf

Image4: A cropped-up part portion likened to a lizard's head

Interestingly, it is much fun to look up to the sky and to discover unending images as much as the imagination allows. With a casual sweep fast and unthinking a plethora of sub-images is discerned. It would be much clearer when cropped to the likeness of an animal or of a weird creature of sorts.

Missed opportunities are aplenty as to how often one looks up to Heaven's expanse except perhaps when extending both hands asking for forgiveness.

Image2 and image4 can be combined to show an angry 'mother alligator' in a protective mood with having its 'baby alligator' swimming in front in an artistic stance facing the opposite direction to its 'mother'

Very much like Zora Hurston looking for ways where she could make herself heard that -  No, I do not weep at the world – I am too busy sharpening my oyster knife.
(144 words)

Process Note: What does Zora Hurston mean by "I am too busy sharpening my oyster knife"?
The quote comes from the personal essay "How It Feels to be Colored Me." in World Tomorrow (1928)

Hurston makes the comment in the context of other writers' attitudes toward their blackness at the time in which the essay was written—1928. Hurston says that she does not "weep at the world" because she is "too busy sharpening her oyster knife." -  Wiki

“the world is your oyster” means that you can achieve anything you wish in life or go anywhere because you have the opportunity or ability to do so.

Gone were the backyard

Of tears of childhood experience
And the triumph of keeping
Boyhood strength that bridged
hidden talents

Gone were the neighborhood
Whose kids have grown
And flew to new nests
Some with no strings attached

Gone were the houses
Close to your heart
Now in ruins
To make way for developers
To enrich their belly
But we still witness
The antics of those vying
For higher office where
brittle rivalries were rampant

Gone were the players of old
Replaced by new ones
Where the game is still the same

When he spied the green luscious plants
All in a row in an orderly fashion
but sadly 'on the other side'
where the grass was greener literally

What did he do wrong that they did right
It was akin to stalking a beautiful lady
Surreptitiously on the sly
Not knowing how she would react
When the moment came upon discovering
that there was an admirer following her tracks

It crossed his mind on how to correct the malady
If only he knew how as he kept eyeing the wonders
of succulent tomatoes, cabbages, and red chillies
to no end. It was a long ride to getting green fingers

Juke: (in sport) make a sham
move to mislead an opponent.

Welcome back, Brian! Great to see you, sir!

he stood out barely in a minute
an immediate showpiece of skills
he juked two defenders ala Ronaldo
they crumbled in a heap on the ground
the new sensation making his debut
touted as a new Pele
and he is not even a Brazilian

countless fish in the water?

                                                                            Author: Jasper James
Image: Difficult to imagine
what lies beneath the water (here)

the 11 of 12 given words:
unravelling shadow spray flame
language risk feast fish off saved eat

would it need unravelling
of imagination in the mind
a shadow play of happenings
to spray flames of languages
in bright daylight to risk a feast
of colourful images

countless fish in the water
desiring to get off to glide
freely in the air wanting
to be saved from having to eat
in a polluted environment

such is the new normal
restrictive in movements
affecting life even in peaceful
reaches of supposedly
clear and clean water
in major waterways

but not anymore

not to holler up the bridge

the 12 given words:
brave, limit, holler, free trot natural, making,
without hate allowed bones awake,

remaining brave knows no limits
not to holler up the bridge but feel free
to trot along in a natural gait
making a bee-line to victory

time is without restrains nor hate
what is allowed ought to be utilised
make no bones about it
to be awake and to realise

an unseen enemy for all to see
not subdued through conventional means
to feel to hear in all reality
now airborne untouched and unseen

border ferocious child rising finery
form fire sky surprise poor

an effervescent young bordering on being adults
the ferocious child now rising to face the world
all dressed in finery spick and span to exalt
a form of fire but not appearing to be cruel

the sky is the limit so they insist vehemently
at the crossroads clamouring to prove a point
not surprising considering the current realities
poor child about to step into a typical war zone

spiritually pure white lotus

the 11 of 12 given words:
lotus floating waters fill my memory
little flap window made wrist

spiritually pure white lotus flowers
standing guard in the early morning mist
serenely floating in calm waters
to fill my memory's desire with ease

the little flap across the window's view
accentuates the desire to spy out more
with progress on the promise made anew
the whines and laments spun off-colour

nothing at all encouraging impacting hard
when the wrist takes the brunt of the pressure
not to unduly get all confused and worked up
best to let the flow take its course at leisure
