the opening was thin

the 10 of 12 given words:
glittering, curtain, thin, carpet
musty (lacking freshness or vitality)
cough, garbage, found, hated, time, flash

expecting a glittering evening full of fun
a curtain-raiser anticipated never did come
the opening was thin, carpeted with insincerity
formalities presented shabbily and musty

why cough out a presentation unprepared
garbage, an immediate verdict many declared
found to be atrocious by any standards as seen
to dilly dally in preparation was a fatal sin

lying in wait the hated calamity took center stage
just what could happen according to the adage
where 'a stitch in time saves nine' if faithfully adhered
in a flash a pending problem is immediately cleared

Note: A proverb termed 'adage'
to keep to the rhyming

  1. Very cleverly written Hank, enjoyed the read. How you use all the given words is excellent.

  4. I'd love to know which band you're talking about, Hank! Though as Phillip says, this approach works if it's punk but most performances benefit from prep! I wonder if you stayed for the whole thing? Still, it was worth the poem :-)

  5. hmm, I have been to some bad shows either they were ill prepared or too wasted. Makes me wonder who the ill prepared were...the words ill and cough stand out in the covid world and I wonder how many might fall ill.

    How are you Hank?

  6. Ill-prepared is worse than nothing at all. You have it right.

  7. I think there are many who would prefer a bad to show to any show after all this time of lock-downs and restrictions
