Just Desserts

What follows a hefty meal
given the choice I would
rather have none

Sweet dishes and pastries
‘Desserts’ the bad word
I would rather have them alone
without the main meal

Not worth the amount of workouts
and Mediterranean dishes
to contend with thereafter
The girth needs the respect
it deserves

A Spent Force

not a ghost of a  chance
he trembled he was on edge
it left him uneasy
much more to settle
than he initially thought

he sought shelter before
he rose to the occasion
he took it upon himself
to progress step by step

it seemingly looked simple
but it burnt out his efforts
even before he ventured in

not this time now
a different era

he felt weak
a limiting factor
that he left out
- age!

Sweetness of Nature

                                                                                                 Author: Dietmar Rabich
Image: Golden Autumn Leaves

Sunday Whirl :The 10 of 12 given words:
taste summer sweetness rush snap resin
passion turn luck half - 749

the taste of Autumn is creeping in
hot Summer is slowly giving way
the sweetness of season's change
gets on its logical course

no rush nor snapping of falling
leaves that follow
floating slowly down
the resin takes its time

the passion of golden maple leaves
take its turn to appear on cue
not prompted by luck

that is nature playing its annual
game and we humans are not
even aware nor bothered of
the clockwork transition
half the time

A Lighted Candle

The Sunday Whirl: the 10 of 12 given words:
swaying drifted steam grass radiance flushed
perfume hypnotic skin hiss - 753

The lighted candle its flame swaying
drifted upwards its sterile aroma of steam
and smoke permeated the air

A feel of freshly cut grass gripped his
imagination

Its radiance flushed his mind with
a perfumed hold that enveloped
him in a hypnotic trance

He shivered in his skin as though
a hissing snake had left
its venom all over

He regretted having abandoned
his wife with a young son recently

Now perhaps having to face
divine correction for his mistake

Eating Out

I dig the senses
My appetite is no worry
My girth keeps increasing
Weight loss is a lost cause
New year resolutions
and dieting are no help

The grandies have quaint ideas
when eating out
The more peppers and hot chili
the better

Fun And Games

                                                                        Author: Marlin Dominguez

          Image: Kid's Fun Times

Yesterday’s been an experience
Not asked for nor expected
If shared with an audience
Fun galore to be appreciated

Today’s real time happenings
Tug at the purse strings mostly
Adjustments of the day being
Possible and effected readily

Tomorrow’s events yet to be seen
With few surprises good or bad
Whenever with one close and loving
Anticipating good fun to be shared

Love in Moments of Joy

                                                                                                              Author: Rangana Abeyrathne

the Female (here)

love seeks moments most
opportune

stalk the sky painted in colours
bring to school

luck may have a hand
for likes of a fair lady
a jewel of a find
a grandmother comes with
lots of snacks

to thwart a desire in business
resolute with serious reasoning
a boy armed
with a sling-shot

in moments of despair
a splash of brilliance
down the elephant's pit hole

peppering thoughts
of a mouse
insistence clutter the mind

pick a ribbon of hope
for divine intervention
uncles with a mop of shiny white hair

Simplicity in Writing

                                                                                                   Author: Leonid Pasternak
Image: The Writer's Block (here)

Emily Dickinson’s phrase "Publication - is the Auction Of the Mind "
She argues that publishing creative work is a "foul" act that degrades intimate thoughts
into commercial commodities. She believed ideas are divine gifts, not for sale, and that
selling one's writing is equivalent to prostituting the soul.

Prompt: to include ‘publication is the auction of the mind’

He has been writing well since school days. He enjoyed the teacher’s
good comments of his works.  He was plainly one-up against his other
friends. They freeze when tasked with writing an essay.

They lacked reading which were reflected in bombastic displays of
writing skills. His simplicity of works produced were frowned upon by
them.

He is now a successful writer with his own set-up. Simplicity is his
forte. He just could not understand why his works were selling like
hot-cakes. Simplicity sells and he was happy.

Basking in the limelight with a few bestsellers others just could not
comprehend. Priced relatively higher and selling well, he was often
labelled unfairly as being lured by money. Why should there be any
objections?

He agreed that ‘publication is the auction of the mind’ Pricing was
irrelevant. Arguments rightly expressed with substance would win
the day!

Eyes for You

Image: Sitting Together - Street Art

The 12 given words:
joy sit place oddly sharp human full
sense instead lingering felt point - 737

a joy to sit in place
oddly enough transforming
bland walls with creative risks
of vibrant street art

sharp human forms
to infuse a culture of freedom
in the full sense of the word

instead it could likewise project
a lingering resilience felt
to the point of culture shifts
in the happiness of young hearts

For just a Flicker

                                                                                 Author: cuatrok 77 hernandez

11 of 12 given words:
flicker glass lurked shame slip red
rattled hollow ravenous found space - 751

for just a flicker he spied
through the glass window
where she always lurked

what a shame he let it slip
yet again the colourful mix
of blue red purple and green

it rattled him to miss a privilege
leaving a hollow image of
a ravenous creation in his mind

he just found empty space staring
at him in the distance an opportunity
desired but left him lame and cold

it is a bother to get her readily
on my handphone that my buddies
can see of such a beautiful
specimen of a peacock
