Image: Walking at Night (here)
Sunday Whirl's 12 given words:
crooked three moon light smoke phantoms
pebbles words names water God lead
Crooked and winding street
At three in the morning accentuating the creeps
The moon shy in emitting light
Lingering smokescreen of long misty nights
Phantoms real or imagined
Following not far behind it seemed
The feeling when walking alone
Still far from home
Pebbles on the ground
Kicked the only sound
Setting eerily in motion
Wild imaginations
Words and names could not describe
Like water gurgling out a broken pipe
God forbid, it could lead
To walking with heavy feet

You have captured the essence of being alone and how scary it can be perfectly Hank
ReplyDeleteIf one lets the imagination play, so many things can be thought of that go bump in the night
ReplyDeleteThat fear. I've been there, and your words bring it back. Well done, Hank!

Eerie but beautiful at the same time..!
There is something a bit frightening about walking alone at night. Your poem aced this feeling, Hank!
ReplyDeleteEspecially frightening when there's only darkness all around!
DeleteYou have described why I hate to walk alone especially at night...I have a vivid imagination...too vivid!
ReplyDeleteI felt the eerie Ness and fear of walking at night.
ReplyDeleteHaha, yes! When walking alone at night, it definitely does accentuate everything and set in motion one's wild imagination!
ReplyDeleteI can relate so well, Hank, having to walk my way home through the night after hours of commute & late night shifts. It's rather scary when you are all by yourself walking with such a heavy feet & exhausted already, yet you can enjoy the view of the moon & the stars when the sky is being generous. Hello Hank! Happy Easter! :)
ReplyDeleteVery good, I have felt this way many times when walking at night only the feet got a little lighter and I began to jog.
ReplyDeleteWalking at night can be beautiful too but I suppose we have to be careful where we do it but would agree strongly when you are in a strange neighbourhood.
ReplyDeleteFeels like some personal notes here...esp. love 'moon shy'. Like what I done with words, Hank!
ReplyDeleteLuv it scary yet contained
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping in at my Sunday Lime this week

Alone in the dark, always scary,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
Incredibly atmospheric. A gem Hank.
ReplyDelete'My friend'...a few words of whimsy
This is an amazing mood piece, Hank. One of your best descriptions - I felt I might inhabit the picture.
ReplyDeleteAmazing Post :)
ReplyDeleteA poem I can relate to Hank. Bering alone specially at night is not a particulary nice feeling. Excellently written.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
amazing one.
ReplyDeleteI know for a woman walking alone late at night is more like a nightmare! Nice job Hank I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteWow. You really captured those eery feelings one has when walking alone in the middle of the night. At least, that's what I image because I've never literally walked alone in the middle of the night, but metaphorically I have, we all have. Great write Hank.
ReplyDeleteI love the feeling you give this Hank. For anyone who walks alone in the shadows knows that feeling of what is just behind (at least in one's imagination.)
ReplyDeleteCreepy...
NIcely imagined and beautifully written.
ReplyDeleteincredible.
