Society regretted for making it symbolic of heroics

Note: Opium poppy is the species of
plant from which opium and poppy
seeds are derived. Opium is the source
of many drugs, including morphine
(and its derivative heroin)  - wiki

the 11 of 12 given words:
hibiscus fear adversary fade claw
downpour human irrelevant
dolorous (causing or expressing misery or grief )
deaden (make weaker less noticeable)
elicit (to draw or bring out or evoke)

Visually attractive akin to a
hibiscus and just as beautiful
Poppy a flower wrongfully
found unfortunately on the
wrong side of the law

Society regretted for making it
symbolic of the heroics of soldiers
fallen in battle before the scourge
the drug scene became a menace

Its derivative heroin instilled fear
on friend and adversary alike
Dolorous on those deaden into
skeletal frames to eventually fade
after clawing ruefully back for a few
the very few successful in rehab

The great many others fail to make it
more like a downpour of no-return
an affront to the human race in its bid
to elicit some dignity still left for those
waiting for their daily fix instead
and chose to remain irrelevant

  1. Well, it is sad that the opium has had such terrible effects. Earlier it was 'just' a medication that could be addictive if used too excessive or in the wrong way (opium pipes). Dan Simmons, who wrote a historical novel involving Drood--chief character in Dicken's unfinished novel--and Dickens' obsession with the man, Drood, seems to think that Charles Dickens was an opium addict.

  2. I think our fear of drugs has sometimes made many patient's pain intolerable... Morphine has it's use.. but there are many victims also.. and its trade has created many criminals.. but the poppy is a wonderful flower.... fortunately there are those with very very low opium content.

  7. Excess of anything is poison. Nature ave us so many abundances, if we use it wisely it could heal us and if unwisely it would be a poison.

  9. Fantastic title and truth. Man, a scourge, seriously a scourge. And we really don't care, do we? Except maybe that tinge of regret about the pretty flowers.
