One gets over the caution
To tread icy waters of winter
Gets to the bones of cold sweat
Still a surge of wetness fear
One gets over the caution
Of handling a new-born baby
As pink as a Barbie doll so real
Heart-beat gets faster for nanny
One gets over the caution
And split the fairway into two
Never thought a perfect drive
Can favor the old golfer in you
One gets over the caution
Revving the throttle for a fast run
When young hearts bid a nasty return
Dicing with dangers of race-track fun

Sometimes we have to live on the wild side a bit
ReplyDeleteThe bones of cold sweat.. Like that a lot,
ReplyDeleteOne gets over the initial trickling of fear & caution ~ However caution should always be heeded ~ Thanks for playing along Hank ~ Have a good Sunday ~
ReplyDeleteWonderful.

Sometimes it is good to get over the caution and just go for it.......
ReplyDeletethere's a progression to more than poetry...LOL
ReplyDeleteWhat a striking phrase - and idea - getting over the caution!
ReplyDeleteYes, when things are normalized we forget our marvel and fear. We can have psychic numbing at the atrocities of war or, on the positive side, a willingness to lleead the way.
ReplyDeleteI guess we all need to see the other side for ourselves sometimes
ReplyDeleteI like "the bones of cold sweat", too, Hank. Well done!
ReplyDeletei can feel the adrenalin rush; edgy write
ReplyDeleteHave a nice Sunday

much love...
The opening line gains much in the repetition, through each new scenario you have presented.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we need to conquer that fear and drive fast and furious in the excitement of new life.
ReplyDeleteLove it! We do get over the caution when passion wants to conquer something.
ReplyDeletei enjoyed this...reminds me of the simple things in life.
ReplyDeleteOne gets over the caution
ReplyDeleteWhen the stars seem to align
In all the right constellations
In everything seems so bright
Just like this poem in mid flight.
Really like the repetition in this because it brings with it a peak of interest over each part of the poem.
We can achieve little without risking something.
ReplyDeleteLove the strength here, challenge of trying and over coming the obstacles...
ReplyDeleteLove the allegory here, Hank. I literally did that once. When our daughter was born I put my motorcycle up. I had become careless to the extent of recklessness and was passing cars between lanes. That is a no-no in the States but commonplace in Europe and other places.
ReplyDeleteOf course it was for the love and guarantee of her having a father around.
..
Very nice poem, getting over that hurdle is important.
ReplyDeletemade me remember the time i did skydving. adrenaline rush.
ReplyDeletea split second can be very vital in adventures like this
Once we put the caution behind, we wonder what it was we were afraid of. You capture that dynamic so nicely.
