Have to have control or heads may roll
ReplyDeleteExcellent write, Hank!
ReplyDeleteFun read, Hank. I used to RIDE motorcycles and RACE cars. Races won't be won by "gingerly control(ling) the speed of the wild machine."
ReplyDelete.
Have to 'abuse' the wild machine to win races. They are built to take and enjoy the abuse.

The lines about "pressurized activities / exciting" made me laugh. Because, well... I have the sense of humor of a teenager.
ReplyDeleteBut then I get to the last stanza, and all the fun goes away. Very sobering ending, Hank.
Usually they prefer the wild ride to the more careful one. No wonder their loved ones worry. Well said, Hank.
ReplyDeleteAnother way to "keep up." xoxo
ReplyDeleteAdrenaline rushes to be tempered with counterweights to assuage loved ones. Cleverly done!
ReplyDeleteYes, the loved ones do want a more controlled ride for sure. My son recently bought a motor cycle and I secretly hoped someone would steal it, so he could never ride it. Fortunately he decided to sell it.
