3WW given words:
resolute fresh new

Comes a time when a beast
of burden falls from grace

Delicate in its rebuff
Grazing in loneliness
Munching turfs wet with tears
Instead of watery padi fields

Twilight industry that mellowed
Overtaken by developments
in housing, plantations and golf courses

Ripples until now but unashamedly
with a resolute at a much faster pace

Housing developers, entrepreneurs
and governments gladly break
away with fresh new ideas of modernization

Just a knock on the wrist
But a cultural shock on farmers
bent on tilling their lands
to maintain a dying industry
to feed hungry mouths

That's progress
Like it or not!

How was she to tell her loving sister

Image: Courtesy of Tess' Mag (here)

Tossing and turning all night
The night skies were black as coal
Heaven’s doors seemed shut to her
How was she to tell her loving sister
Her tears flowed freely onto the pillow
Broke her heart into smithereens

She was to accompany her sister to the airport
An elder sister, a mentor and a friend
And they grew up together as bosom buddies

They were to receive John at the airport
Only yesterday her sister had confided in her
That she just could not wait to be in John’s arms
John, their neighbor before
her sister’s childhood friend but more on
a hot and cold relationship though

John had confessed his feelings
for her barely six months ago
There should not therefore be anything
going between him and her sister
so she thought until yesterday

Her sister broke the news about John’s
homecoming and it broke her heart
For John had informed her the week before
of his homecoming himself  but never
mentioning about wanting to meet her sister

She could imagine both of them rushing
to hug him the moment he stepped into view

Must she tell her?
Must she give way?
Must she go to the airport at all?

It would trigger the process
Otherwise she would be stumped
There was a likely starting
It just could not be explained
Once it got off the ground
There was no turning back

Today it was wriggling in her head
It came in brilliance of something psychedelic
Another time it was colorful and kaleidoscopic
It was easy once the cob-webs cleared up
But not always!

It could be so hopelessly a chore
That dampened the creative juices

The Prose
He trudged along. Glassy-eyed, looking down. Not entirely focused but lost in a world of his own, aimlessly. He had alighted from the bus, walked a few blocks and was now hungry. He liked that part of the neighborhood. He quickened his pace. He aimed for the seat at the corner, his favorite spot. The same spot. Strangely enough it was always available even when other seats around it were taken..

How he loved to watch the crowd walking by, the beauty of an ‘al fresco’ with the fresh breeze that tousled his hair lightly as he sat sipping his ‘cuppa’

The dance hall was right there across the road. Its entrance that led to a lobby was wide open in early evenings. He could eye everyone who made a bee-line for it. He could not help but reflected on how it had been. He had been around. Those were the good old days still vivid in memory. He just loved to look across with thoughts far away.

A swinger himself once and proud to be one. How he held others spell-bound with all the moves for which a swinger was held in high esteem

He considered himself lucky, he was lucky! Could not have been a better environment growing up. He had an elder sister whom he used to tag along . She turned out to be an accomplished dancer in her teen years. That was the time when he too began to be interested in girls his age.

“ I used to hear loud music from your room and you were jumping
around apparently” he quipped one day.
“ What! She retorted! I wasn’t jumping around. I was swinging”

That opened the Pandora’s box and he had been swinging ever since. Elder sister ought to be ‘tickled’ in a way that she would like to ‘show-off’ her prowess on the dance-floor. He got his free lessons on the jitterbug routine blended into the Charleston all at home.

He also learned a valuable lesson too which he used liberally in life. The way to a man’s heart was the stomach so he had heard. Likewise there was a sure-fire way to a girl’s heart. It was ‘appreciation coupled with compliments and doses of innocent flattery’ liberally extended. He had been so advised. Sure enough. It worked on his sister. That way he got her to be ‘his dance teacher’ at no cost. It worked all the time with the other girls just as well!

He remembered fondly his idols those that kept him company on the floor. Those whose names were on everyone’s lips. The evenings would have dragged on otherwise. These were the ‘sixties’ more ‘roaring’ perhaps than the ‘roaring forties’

There was Frankie ‘Blue Eyes’ Sinatra, Judy Garland, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald  Elvis ‘the Pelvis’ (a handle he abhorred) Satchmo with his faithful trumpet belting songs with ‘the frog in his throat’ They were all riding on the popularity of ‘pop music’. The 'carry-over’ from music established by the band-leaders of the Swing Era the likes of Benny Goodman, Count Basie and Duke Ellington.

It was cats and dogs. She could hear the force of the winds lashing
against the windows. She had sought shelter in the office.staying back
even though it was time to go. She found herself now in a slight
drizzle standing on the pavement like everyone else. The cabs were
all there like maids in a row and they were not moving.

Apparently there were some disagreements with their management

On reflection, it had not been a good day. Testing times in the morning
on so many fronts. She had rushed in and barely seated herself safe in her
seat only to see her boss smirking sternly from inside the 'aquarium'. His
domain of glass-walled room fondly referred to by her peers.

'She is late again!' That must be swirling in his mind on seeing her. But
the bus did not meet their schedules. It was not her fault as she had been
waiting for a good hour.

Then the appointments! Three from good clients were abruptly cancelled
It did not matter whether they were supposed to come to the office or he
was to go to theirs. They were just cancelled.

Just as the lunch date with her fiance. What she dreaded happened.
'Why aren't responsible people be more responsible' she lamented!

to resort to books to kill time

12 given words:
flight fringe already night visible unravel
beg exist current terrain speak file

Flight of fancy a fringe benefit
Already ingrained in many youngsters
Expected with doses of medicine as befit
At night given by a parent that bothers

Perceived as visible of a simple practice
Faithfully commencing from a young age
To expound good habits regularly not to miss
By setting a pattern for them to emulate

Such were specimens of good upbringing
On a generation engrossed in the current rave
of the social media and gamers existing
Unravelled to beg to be allowed some space

Were they not restrained to take advantage
From elders not given to technological skill
Who despite being deprived of the privilege
Resorted to books with lots of time to kill

A terrain so smooth with a parent's affluence

Clear view of purpose

One must stand tall
Courtship is an art
Just not enough on stilts
Be taller than the target
Towering above
Is to be in control
Sight ahead easier to behold
Clear view of purpose
Will make strategies
A piece of cake

Confidence difficult
to strive for but easy to attain
Flatteringly a little
it works!

Cherry blossom fare
Distant mountain tops capped white
Blissfully peaceful

Cherry blossom fare
Spectacle extending a
heavenly blessing

Distant mountain tops capped white
Sitting elegant
Regal-like stature

Blissfully peaceful
Snug in warm embrace as a
kitten sound asleep

Could jump twist and bend

                                                                               Attribution: unknown
Image: Courtesy of Mama Zen (here)

Now into our second week
Our dance teacher had been wondering
We were too meek
She had been insisting

Should find it easy when
We had perfect structure
Could jump twist and bend
Great potential for a dancer

Looking at that picture
Teacher be blessed
If that dancer
could be a success
Cute guys like us
Should be more class

Gangway to the dominant male

3WW given words:
lackadaisical makeshift nude

Poets United's prompt:
Energy vitality

Gangway to the dominant male
The individual is a level above
Not just the survival of the fittest
but much much more
It allows access to food and harem
the submissive ones eventually
disappear into oblivion

Energy and vitality level at their zenith
Strength and bravery are not just buzz words
Nothing lackadaisical as a sloth
and not makeshift in attitude
But physically pitting brawn
over one another
The strongest can then claim victory

The dominant male is still insisting
but now more of a show-off flaunting wealth
good looks or perhaps their deficiencies

Wanting to be in the limelight
Revving a red lamborghini incessantly
in nude efforts of wealth or success

Those with nothing to show
are found at street corners continually
combing their Elvis hairstyle in fake attraction

Even the 'fighter lion syndrome' is still kept alive
with mild forms of territorial markings where
trees mailboxes and lampposts continue
to be fair game
'communicating' to other canines
of their boundary confines
and perhaps sexual availability

Admittedly male ego can never be bruised!

Snow flakes floating down

                                                                                                    Author: Sb2s3

Drab Sunday morning
Musing for walk in the sun
Viewed from the window

Snow flakes floating down
Dancing merrily in step
Tired bones creaking
