ReplyDeleteI would love to journey to India - it is steeped in history, which you touch on here. There is a statue of Ghandi in my town in South Africa, because he served here during the Anglo-Boer War, helping the wounded soldiers.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to stand at Gandhi's grave. And to be in India! Wonderful, Hank!
ReplyDelete:) Hope you had a wonderful stay in India. Just in a few lines you have depicted India from old ages to modern day.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for writing this poem and just a few days back we celebrated our independence day.
How the old and new co-exist there! You've made some balance in your peom.

I love this. Traveling for me is the ultimate in life lessons. Learning everything you can about how other people live just makes your life that much richer....great job.
ReplyDeleteI used to say to a friend who went with me on the trip to India, my history teacher was fond of uttering the phrase " The wonder that is India " and upon completing the triangle, Delhi,Agra and Jaipur, we experienced it. It is a truly exquisite country to visit.
ReplyDeleteSweet! Captures the essence of the country.
ReplyDeleteIndia has so much that draws one to it! Your poem captures that!
ReplyDeleteVery nice contrasts here, Hank. First, the antiquities, then the traditions, and finally the realities of today's 'global market.' An excellent look, in only a few stanzas, at an entire nation. Peace, Amelita
ReplyDeleteAlso, nice to see you linked this up at Real Toads, as I am a Toad myself, ha ha, it's true!! I am Toadworthy! A.
