Image: Self Censorship is Better (here)
The mass media as opposed to the social media
Current phenomena causing lots of unpleasantness
Opening to public view the nasty side of people
Communicating is fast of unfettered exchanges
Flow of news unheeded unchecked with no
thoughts
of maintaining any semblance of good behavior
Sowing hate messages under privilege of anonymity
Chants and rants defying risks of character defamation
is common place absence of a road-map found wanting
Self censorship to block such omissions is advised
No easy way of enforcement a bit of a problem
A show of being responsible is very much lacking
Many seems to be in a wicked trance just not
bothering

Yes, it is hard to avoid those ugly outpourings. I applaud your sentiments!
ReplyDeleteIt does seem that in mass media we are seeing too much of the nastiness of people. Too many ugly 'chants' and 'rants.'

Such powerful lines..!!
Your poem has described some of the most horrid aspect of social media rather clearly. A good thing, a good place, made into a hell every single day.
ReplyDeleteYep, hiding behind a computer allows people to say whatever they like and then mass media goes nuts over it too.
ReplyDeleteSelf censorship requires self AWARENESS! Good post
ReplyDeletei sometimes wonder how people are capable of such nastiness...well said Hank...
ReplyDeleteFor that purpose I applaud self-censorship... but today I think it's also used to avoid being the target for hate or oppression. So at one side I applaud it, for other reasons I'm hesitant.
ReplyDeleteWe seem to have lost all personal boundaries, haven't we? This rings so true and I adore every words...especially loved....
ReplyDelete'absence of a road-map found wanting'
A lot of that does flow unchecked and from those who hide behind the computer screen.
ReplyDeleteWhew! You said it Hank. People must communicate responsibly. A touch of kindness wouldn't hurt would it?
ReplyDeleteSelf censorship, definitely the place to start
ReplyDeleteMuch love...
Some people can be nasty, you put this message over very well Hank/
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
Well expressed, Hank. I keep imagining my grandmother's face, were she to hear some of what passes for social exchange these days. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteExcellent sentiment, ownership in conversation, something we lack. But something has to be said about parenting in this day in age, ever hang around reddit or on multiplayer games long enough, it seems a lot of trolling is coming from kids experimenting or just simply unobserved.
ReplyDeleteTechnological advancement always comes at a price and social media is no exception. For many, freedom of speech is a excuse to cease editing oneself completely. It's sad. Nothing good ever comes from words-gone-wild. A timely post, Hank!
ReplyDeleteA convoluted problem man has created (did he have a plan?)
