Sunday Whirligig given words:
anger, lagging, stride, silver, vein, extravagant,
joy, chalk, nonsense, clear, topmost
It is a manifestation of outright anger
Lagging behind along the stride of
human development
It makes itself to be rotten to the core
rusting beyond redemption
It is just raw iron grills part of the fencing
not silver or a vein of gold
Not extravagant in any way
So what to make of it!
Nothing on hold
That is life at its most candid
No joy being just another appendage
Chalking up loads of goodness and efforts
protecting others but not appreciated
Nonsense! It is clear enough!
One is not to expect rewards at every turn
Of topmost consideration is to sow lots of help
Sincere and generous efforts to others
Without expecting anything in return
The yin and yang will balance itself
in many different ways
the benefits of generous tendencies
will find whom to reward
That is how it works apparently
without fanfare and without publicity!

Excellent poem Hank with your message and the given words coming over very clear,
ReplyDeleteI agree it's not right to expect rewards when doing good but it would be lovely to be appreciated all the same.
Enjoy your Sunday.
Yvonne.
People who don't care about publicity and just do their work are the true deserving candidates.
ReplyDeleteA clever and thoughtful piece Hank...yes..the actions that 'count' are often undertaken with silent dignity and effort
ReplyDeleteSomehow we have developed a weakness a need almost for praise as well as remuneration. We are not helped by those in control, in power or governance where rorts and claims for expenses are commonplace and demanded.
ReplyDeleteYes, the yin and yang will balance themselves in the end. Not rewards at every turn, but somehow it will all equal itself out!
ReplyDeleteSuch a powerful write!
ReplyDelete"Of topmost consideration is to sow lots of help"...this is a stellar line Hank...
ReplyDeleteA yin and yang to it indeed. Those not looking for recognition are usually the best people
ReplyDeleteI specially like the balancing of the yin and yang ~ A very striking photo prompt, thanks ~
ReplyDeleteWithout balance everything erupts into chaos
ReplyDeleteI believe you are right.
ReplyDeleteSo cleverly written with the specific words required of you - thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful, in the midst of all that is out of balance in this world, when one can strive to do good for others without expectation of return.........and thankfully, there are so many people like this in the world. Good one, Hank.
ReplyDeletei sincerely luv this poem, my favourite vers is
ReplyDelete"The yin and yang will balance itself
in many different ways
the benefits of generous tendencies
will find whom to reward"
which holds so much wisdom ; for good deeds never go unrewarded, really.
have a good Sunday
much love...
A great argument!

"One is not to expect rewards at every turn" - that is so true. I think that, in our attempts to raise children with high self esteem we have, inadvertently, lowered the bar with regards to what one expects to be rewarded for. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI like the positive nature of this poem. There are so many good people in this world who do good without needing reward. You wrote a wonderful poem to honor them Hank.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wise and beautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteA reminder of true altruism.
ReplyDeleteThe scales will balance in the end..when you do from the heart the reward is returned you do not need a big brass band to announce your deed.
ReplyDeleteso fertile with associations to think on
ReplyDeleteA really brilliant read.
ReplyDeleteService given can be its own reward.
ReplyDeleteA brilliant write! 'One is not to expect rewards at every turn' Love this line. Realizing our self growth should definitely be reward enough.
ReplyDeleteAn excellent write Hank, given words well used and the message of your poem coming across very well.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
A strong message conveyed nicely :)
