The given words:
inevitable system taxman kept fear heat
prison sovereign beware advice mail premise
Two aspects of life hover over our heads
All will be impacted upon though not equally
But both will happen in time it is inevitable
Both are in the system governing our destiny
Both are unavoidable waiting games
Presence of the taxman and the specter of death
While death is kept in abeyance by most
Spiritual perhaps but an emotional fear still abound
The heat is real of the unrelenting IRS
Where prison terms were imposed on known
celebrities who 'spend first and worry later'
It is a sovereign right on the part of the
government to impose tax but beware of
ill-advised investment 'opportunities' that
led many astray on new-found wealth
Tax avoidance is allowable but not tax evasion
While some are smart but many others are in despair
For mail from the IRS are not readily welcomed
which is not being fair and responsible to oneself
The premise is to face it head-on and with dignity
for it rears its ugly head without fear or favor
It is equitable and necessary but it hurts

ReplyDeleteAs they say.....nothing is certain but death and taxes!
ReplyDeleteOnly two sureties in this world,
ReplyDeletedeath and taxes. We got hit with a pretty big tax bill
this year because of a change in the law - sucks,
cause if we had known, we could have prepared ---
but you live on anyway.
Death and taxes. It is time to file the returns and your thoughtful poem makes a stand. Great write!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great picture, as many have already written death and taxes are two sure things. Great poem with the given words. Hank.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
ah yes- taxes are sure as death.. and both is painful but what can you do..
ReplyDeleteUgg, they sure suck indeed. But one has to push on
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Hank. Necessary...but they sure do hurt.
ReplyDeleteWell said, and do have a good weekend!
ReplyDelete"Tax avoidance is allowable but not tax evasion"...sigh...a clever write Hank using all the words :)
ReplyDeleteYour observations are very true, Hank, especially pertaining to taxes and death.
ReplyDeleteyou had me until equitable.... but then perhaps the government is no longer for the people, but our keeper. Good write.
ReplyDeleteI wish it was equitable - tax breaks and bailouts for corporations, cut services to the poor......sigh. But I will try to focus on the poem, which is a good one, LOL!!!!! Taxes wind me up.
ReplyDeleteYup, no one gets out of life alive, & no one can duck the IRS for long. A clever use of those words in the list, young sir, & the message is clarion.
ReplyDeleteYou are dead on...I mean spot on~ Clever and very true.
ReplyDeleteLike the pun Ella!
DeleteHank
The irs and death will get us all
ReplyDeletethose awful beasts aren't dragons we can proudly fight and slay, but we must face the taxman and Death with dignity none the less. Very cool premise!
ReplyDeleteNo choice but to pay up...At least here, I can see where my taxes are going ~
ReplyDeleteGrace
"Presence of the taxman and the specter of death" - interesting, I never read a poem on this before. A clever write.

ReplyDeleteAmazing how you wove all the required words into this. People say the only thing sure is death and taxes, but they forget about life.....without life, there cannot be a death. Clever and cerebral write here. Hayes Spencer is Kanzensakura
