the 10 of 12 given words:acquiesce shrug inhale pity ruffle
inevitably groan disgust lament grim
to inhale pity without a ruffle
not to acquiesce in meek demeanour
for it is not an option
but to just shrug it off
is a tragedy for it is conforming
to bullying tactics
it is necessary to push forward
the guiding light even
with a puny lantern
to inevitably put up a brave front
against those hiding
behind the cloak of cowardice
to cause damage
the expected defense is always devoid
of a groan but to confront the
disgust of not wanting to succumb
under the weight of surrender
not even to lament
a grim outcome to a dignified soul

*inhale pity without a ruffle" - great phrase. No, that we must not do.
ReplyDeleteYes, we have to counteract the darkness with strength, and shine whatever light we have. Good one, Hank.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant use of the given words. I liked the first stanza, so difficult at times to shrug it off!
ReplyDeleteSome mighty imagery here Hank! I love the message it holds! Pushing forward is a must! So glad you joined in at the Muse this week!
ReplyDeleteI agree that pushing forward is necessary for change even if the light source is small. For light is still light and each of us carry a bit of light and as a community we create an abundance of light.
ReplyDeleteOne match can burn a forest to the ground, so there can be much power — even in a puny lantern, well written Hank
ReplyDeleteI am thoroughly impressed with how you combined challenges, not an easy task! Cheers.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of just illuminating the cowardice and walking on.
ReplyDelete*inhale pity without a ruffle" That is such a powerful line.
ReplyDeleteWe have to keep that light at the end of the darkness in mind, especially in situations like we're experiencing at the moment.
ReplyDeleteGreat verse Hank.

ReplyDeleteThe cloak of cowardice”
