Sick Woman, 1665, by Jan Steen

It has always been
Nary a thought far from her
When he finds her sick
The vow solemnized
set responsibilities
for him to accept
When a spouse is sick
the man downs tool to focus
solely on his wife
He worries. His
life
takes adjustments. He knows well
for that man is me
A haiku set written for Tess' Magpie 138
I love how you have them married here, then the twist to yourself -- a magnificent treat to read!!
ReplyDeleteAnd I wonder if he will pull that lyre down and sing her a lullaby to help her to sleep and recuperate? xo
As it should be, Hank, on both parts I think. Well said.

ReplyDeleteEverything gets thrown for a loop and on worries what it is all about
Nice take on the pic.
ReplyDeleteOh, lovely thoughts, Hank, caring for a sick spouse. When I'm not well, my husband worries about when I'll get his laundry done. LOL
ReplyDeleteK

ReplyDeleteThe ending made me retread it. Great piece!
ReplyDeleteHank,
ReplyDeleteThe 'Ijab and Qabul' is the covenant with Allah Almighty that you have taken her as the Trust from the Almighty. That Trust have to be fulfilled.
The heart is always the best speaker. What devotion and responsibility ;-)
ReplyDeleteI hope she is well soon. For him.
ReplyDeleteAwww and what a great husband you are then Hank, yes, as flaubert says, it works both ways.

ReplyDeleteAnd a sweet, dear man at that!
ReplyDeleteA husband and wife should always take care of each other ... you have illustrated it perfectly !!!
ReplyDeleteYour haiku grouping is both eloquent and beautifully composed. Thank you for sharing this, Hank. I am so sorry to hear about your wife. It is always a blessing in today's world to hear from others like myself who choose to put effort into their marriage by honoring their vows. Barry and I were married for forty years. I have to agree with Kim Nelson's comment. =D
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda! Shadah is a gem! We've been very lucky! It's minor cough and colds sort of.( We've been married for 41 years. Gosh, how time flies!)
