An Iconic Being

An icon revered
A charismatic being
A generous soul

Vibrant for his shine
Towering above, radiant
Sentiments expressed

Bolster the flock well
Profound accolades achieved
Just exemplary

He was made to suffer for 27 years, 'behind bars' and knocking stones. Raise my hat to both, Mandela sans bitterness and the Afrikaans for dismantling apartheid and elevating him to the highest office!

  5. Nelson Mandela — indeed an extraordinary man, Hank. Ranks right up there with Gandhi.

  6. Kay,
Can never be another icon! He 'abdicated' the presidency within a few years. Power was not his motivation!

  12. Well done. I once wrote an essay on Ghandi ... he is one of my role models.

  13. Hi Hank--icons all right. Often they have an innate charisma even before fame, though sometimes it's hard to tell what came first. Thanks much. K.

  14. The question is: Did Mandela come into the world as a generous, open soul, or did he have to learn generosity and openness the hard way?

  17. Hank,

There are so few people who fit the hounour as much as Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi.
This sad old world is in need of a new 'being.'
