Note: This is an attempt to show 2 contrasting
situations.
First contrast:
Dressings of old whites to the current colorful ones
Second contrast: Ana, the Pin-Up girl of tennis is more
impressive off than on the courts
Woman’s tennis were
whites not too long ago but
now bathed in colors
Brides will always be
in whites. It is sacrilege
to think otherwise

Oh, come on! Can't we have a bride clad in scarlet? Heh!
ReplyDelete“Hungry Sunrise Fire & White Bird”
Some brides prefer other colours..I think its her choice though ~
ReplyDeleteHappy day Hank ~
MMT and Grace,
ReplyDeleteGosh,I never for one moment thought that brides would go against convention. I thought it had always been white. This is an interesting phenomena. The modern ladies have now spoken! Phew!
Hank
Great haiku ~ lovely ~ color of brides gown depends on the culture ~ it is only clothing ~ thanks, namaste, ^_^
ReplyDeleteNice and colorful haiku. Wonderful pictures of those tennis playing women.
ReplyDeleteThe symbolism of white for a bridal gown becomes more symbolic and less a reality every day. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI wondered why the old-time tennis players, Hank. Good contrast. An excellent post.

Hmmmmm.....K .
ReplyDeleteThanks for the photo of Yvonne, such a dignified champion. But if my memory is accurate, she took quite a while to get enough money together to have her teeth fixed! A far cry from the millions they earn now!
ReplyDeleteWhite brides? I think white used to denote virginity... get real Hank! Hehe!
That's not to imply..of course white is pure, certainly Stafford!
ReplyDeleteHank
U said it right, she is more beautiful off court...
ReplyDeleteJJRod'z
smiles...nice contrast...does it mean the purity of the game is gone? i have seen some more progressive wedding dresses that are not white too...
ReplyDeleteGood point. Did you mean wore whites in the first line?
ReplyDeleteHi All,
ReplyDeleteLiberal women these days are very fast with changes. If their thinking are sustained wedding colors would certainly be subject to their liberal needs. Whites are in jeopardy!
Hank
LOL It's been passed down through generations that the only colour players can wear at Wimbledon is white. Since the lat 80's they have allowed a little flash of colour here and there but, the rules say that is has to be predominantly white. I guess it's a bit like not allowing women into the club house at certain golf clubs, crazy old rules.
ReplyDeleteI do agree, they are much more cheerful in a bit of colour Hank :)
see...the world is changing...we just can't call tennis the white sport anymore then...
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of contrast between past and present. Still some things never change.
