Image: Fighting her Own Battle (here)
the advancing waves rose rightly higher
menacingly secured in all of its strength
never the intention to challenge nature
but when it did come with bared fangs
ready to face the onslaught unarmed
seemingly against this lady defenceless
but with inner strength deftly enhanced
dragging a long red shawl in readiness
unsuspecting in earnest but a brave front
tracing a memory still fresh in her mind
robbed of his presence tragic in circumstance
destined to be alone to face the grind

A lovely ekphrastic poem, Hank!💞
ReplyDeleteThe poem is perfect for the photo. Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteShe must be brave indeed. Beautiful writing Hank!
ReplyDeleteCould have been written about me.......being alone to face the grind. Suprising what the sea can enfold.
ReplyDeleteLovely words Hank excellently written;
Yvonne.
Have to be brave to face it head on indeed
ReplyDeleteBrave, or despondent--if we interpret that image literally!
ReplyDeleteHank, I predict she will loose the women's fight. She is ready to fight bulls, wild water in the rampage always winds, the winds are fanning her anger.
ReplyDelete..
A dramatic poem for a dramatic scene!
ReplyDeleteI like how you evoke the power of the waves, hank, in the lines:
ReplyDelete'the advancing waves rose rightly higher
menacingly secured in all of its strength'
and
'...when it did come with bared fangs'.
