Ruefully moving
Lone butterfly fluttering
Aimlessly tugging
To lament the end
Warmth of summer lingering
Left by the wayside
Making an entry
Autumn slowly creeping in
Presence most welcomed
Chev reasoned the necessity of incorporating a kigo (a seasonword) in a haiku
Butterflies are a kigo for Summer
Written for Chev's Tackle it Tuesday with inclusion of a kigo - butterfly- and Real Toad's Open Link Monday

I love butterflies and your verse did them justice.

Sucking up the last of summer
ReplyDeleteAs they know winter will be a bummer
Showing all the delight of their self
As they float around your shelf.
Here comes my favorite season...not just becasue of the season, but also because of the awesome poetry it inspires. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteautumn is most welcome...i will miss the butterflies though...i find them rather beautiful...
ReplyDeleteI love how the lonely lingering butterfly contrasts with the welcome that you give to autumn
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful poem ... I loved the image too :-)
ReplyDeletethat was terribly beautiful....you captured the season perfectly with your words...espec. love the verbs and adverbs you have used - ruefully moving, fluttering aimlessly tugging, lament, and lingering, ....
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to Autumn, but it's a season that is hardly noticed here. It's still very hot, and colors don't change in the desert.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the butterfly... in the sense that in order to embrace the new, the old first must be relinquished.
ReplyDeleteWonderful haiku as 'butterfly' focus ~ (A Creative Harbor)
ReplyDeleteOne laments, the other is welcomed. And oh so true. I am always ready for the seaons to change?
ReplyDeleteWonderful haiku Kaykuala love the way you have brought in the kigo Butterfly for summer and that as a welcome to autumn, my favorite season.
ReplyDeleteWe've had far fewer butterflies this year - sadly. The wet weather no doubt to blame.
ReplyDeleteI always feel a bit sad at the end of summer when I see butterflies yet...knowing that there will be 8 months when they will be somewhere else! Sigh. I enjoyed your poem, Hank.
ReplyDeleteThe butterfly laments; we rejoice--seems like such a sad kind of balance!
ReplyDeleteButterflies are a kigo for summer. How wonderful, Hank. I love the idea, and your poem.
