What fun, memories!

Process Note: To explain Tonto's head-dress:
Johnny Depp looks unrecognizable. He was actually inspired to update Tonto's look after seeing a painting by artist Kirby Sattler. "I looked at the face of this warrior and thought: That's it," Depp recalls. "The stripes down the face and across the eyes . . . it seemed to me like you could almost see the separate sections of an individual, if you know what I mean."Depp says the lines of paint on the face represent the cross-section of a man's emotional life.
"There's this very wise quarter, a very tortured and hurt section, an angry and rageful section, and a very understanding and unique side. That makeup inspired me."
Sattler's painting also inspired Tonto's headdress. "It just so happened Sattler had painted a bird flying directly behind the warrior's head. It looked to me like it was sitting on top, "I thought: Tonto's got a bird on his head. It's his spirit guide in a way. It's dead to others, but it's not dead to him. It's very much alive." 3. Should be a good one I hope. But with that dead bird on his head I still say Depp looks like a dope.

  6. A unique take on the prompt to be sure, but a fun one! Looking forward to the movie, I'm interested to see what a modern take on such an iconic duo will look like in the end.

  14. I did not know this! Thank you for the update. I look forward to it as well, since the TV show was one of my favorites as a child. Always looking out to help others was the mainstay in these shows, and I think it rubbed off somewhat in my life. I also like the quotes you pick out from Depp. That's a very keen description he gives of the make-up.

  21. Dear All,
The general opinion seems to be a grand welcome is awaited for. We've had Clint Eastwoods and Franco Nero westerns before which apparently are now sorely missed. Instead, the proliferation of sci-fi epics we have had in recent years dulled our imaginations. Cowboy and Indians ought to whet the appetite of those who still hold the memories. 23. Oh, definitely something I'll go and see, although I pretty much see everything anyway, but Johnny Depp, in my opinion, is the best actor working, and that's by a mile, always nails his roles. And interesting note about him as well, is that I heard he refuses the finished product of any of his films, can't remember the reason why though. Very neat verse to accompany this movie news. Thanks

  25. Oh, fun! I second Brian's hope that they don't spoil the memory of childhood Saturdays. But no matter, what, I'd see it just for Johnny Depp.
