writing a poem can be frustrating

10 of 12 given words:
poem waves glides sleek made things head cuts
murk (darkness or thick mist that makes it difficult to see)
balsa (balsa wood is a very lightweight material)

writing a poem can be frustrating
it comes in waves of inspiration
it glides easy at odd times feeding
the sleek inquisitive self at random

wading through the murk is plain silly
unlike balsa wood lightweight and easy
things made difficult with no big money
tensions to the head makes it giddy and guilty

it is best not to hurry matters at hand
a rest between takes to cut off the gloom
just heavenly to work with a rested mind
to let the creative juices space to bloom

  1. A rest can sure restore the creative flow many a time.

  2. Hmmm. It's not clear to me how money could or would ease the path to poetry. But wait! Maybe it could be poetry of contrast with a place of less mud and more beauty? Or poetry that actually earns our living? But no amount of money could buy the drive that guides us. I love the restfulness and hope of that last stanza.

    1. Hank was thinking writing good poetry unlike writing a good novel would not bring big money

  3. And yet you make it look so easy! Especially to those of us poetry challenged types.

  7. Writing stories or poetry is something we do much like cavemen etching dinosaurs on their cave walls. It is to say "I was here". It is done for pleasure although some recognition would be appreciated. I am sure the caveman's wife gave him an extra cuddle to have him put the picture on the wall.

  9. Sometimes the given words make good poetry and other times just get in the way. I can see why it's frustrating this time. Lol!
