to include the quotation:
'roads, where we are going we don't need roads'
- from the movie, Back to the Future, 1985
we could understand better their blues
an awakening not burdened with guilt
a distraction not likely to cause a jolt
not realizing what that entailed
often wondering why they failed
choose not ourselves to restrain
if we could feel the pain
go then find from where you could get
the love searing your heart you had not met
to discover where the road leads
go for a wholesome thrust till it bleeds
roads, where we are going we don't need roads
just travel light not to unwisely overload
give it all you’ve got,
give it a shot.
when you’re done,
when you’re done,
reflect on your wants
if it’s tough
if it’s tough
give it a laugh
venture out push for a long ride
you never know until you’ve tried

"an awakening not burdened with guilt."
ReplyDeleteWise words. This line was very thought-provoking...."an awakening not burdened with guilt". With guilt lifted, the picture would truly be clearer, walking in someone else's shoes.
ReplyDeleteThis reads as a call to take a chance on life and the road less travelled - or to make your own road when the path ahead isn't clear. I love it!
ReplyDeleteHaving not ventured out for a while I read this with interest.
ReplyDeleteWise words..... must get my walking shoes on.
Wonderful verse, thanks for sharing.
Yvonne.
"Just travel light" ~~~ my motto. Cheers, Hank.
ReplyDeleteI'm now "Hank"ering to set out on the road for an adventure. There's a lyrical feel to your poem.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever read Tom Robbins' book, "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues"? Sissy Hankshaw is probably still out on the road there somewhere...
Not that I have, Jade. Will give it a shot to see how Sissy is doing out there. Yes!

This is incredibly wise and profound, Hank! I especially like; "venture out push for a long ride/you never know until you’ve tried." Yes!
ReplyDeleteI love how you captured a real journey, where travel is the essence and your goal comes second or third.
ReplyDeleteThe traveling is the thing. Beautifully written, Hank!
