A respite awaited for! An occasion felt for by most as it interjects in between. It divides the year into two more or less. School holidays for two weeks to savor. There are at other times for instance the one at the end of year. That would stretch for almost six weeks, the ultimate. But nothing like one in mid-year. It is akin to a rest in between takes short enough to rest a little but not too long to lose the momentum
Yippee! It is here!
It will be on for two weeks
Starting yesterday
The first stop is the Club. Not too early in the morning but just about when it is turning a little warmer. A spot of swimming is in order. It has been said swimming is a total thing. The coordination of muscles to movements is perfectly timed and balanced. The beauty is the breathing sequence is invoked keeping pace with the gliding moves. All muscles are working in tandem, facial when breathing, hands and legs in progressing forward and the stomach usually neglected comes into play naturally. A two- hour stint is about enough to unwind a little and then off to the cafeteria for some snacks
Water is soothing
Balanced movements of muscles
One feels light and trim
Items procured to relate
with in cyber-space
Youngsters bombarded
with lots of distractions need
parental guidance
Note: A Haibun, a Japanese form comprises a prose together
with a micro poetry ( in this case a haiku set)
For Bjorn's hosting at d'Verse: MTB, where one is to write a haibun
ha. so you are on vacation? a reward well deserved for sure...or maybe they are just on school holiday....our school let out last friday and tomorrow is my last day...make sure you give them that guidance now...smiles.
ReplyDeleteYippeee was the words I said too, soo nice to have a break. I think work should give us the summer off too haha
ReplyDeleteSounds like fun for the youngsters ~ Yep, they do need parental guidance ~
ReplyDeleteI can remember the excitement of "school's out" nicely done
ReplyDeleteI always love to see the kids let out of school for summer vacation. Great time for the grandparents, too! Enjoy~
ReplyDeleteMy wife is a teacher, & I'm retired, so available for her mid-winter. holiday, & spring breaks before the 8 weeks of Summer, the road trips, the togetherness. An excellent imaginative response to the prompt, and wow, a full set of haiku as foot wear, as delicious garnish; impressive & cool.
ReplyDeleteI miss my school days. The days of no hurries or worries
ReplyDeleteOh yes those distractions of kids today.. But how nice to have those two weeks of relapse.. Lovely thought.. And those shorter breaks must be great for grandparents.
ReplyDeleteSchool vacations...the mall....we still think of how young and full of potential they are, and before we know it they are grown.
ReplyDeleteA lovely cheerful haibun. Thank you for the respite.
ReplyDeletenice... school holidays are a well deserved off time... and i would love to go for a swim...too cool over here though at the moment
ReplyDeletei feel the excitement
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the enthusiasm in your words, Hank, and how each haiku adds to your previous stanzas.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to read about school holidays, Hank! I am sure your grandkids will enjoy. (Thinking of your subject matter, be sure to visit OpenLinkNight tomorrow...I am tending bar...and this is a subject near and dear to my heart. Smiles.)
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary! Wildo!
DeleteSounds like you are having fun :) I enjoyed those photos Hank, wish I had a coconut tree!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you'll have a delightful holiday!
ReplyDeleteNo more school is the best time of year when a kid
ReplyDeleteThat was a lovely read! The reflection on the benefits of swimming was fascinating. (I'll have to get back to doing some!) I am thinking the piece would also work very well with the haiku interspersed in the prose text, if you ever wanted to try it that way — though they are wonderful as a set, and I can see why you did it this way.
ReplyDeleteI've changed it! Somehow it looks more organized now! It certainly looks better! Thanks Rosemary!

Hey... you're saying YIPPEE too? Oh aren't holidays great, Hank? Feeling free day and night...
ReplyDeleteAh, the oasis of the school holidays... what memories! :)
ReplyDeleteSchool holidays - a treat! We used to have a lot of coconut trees. When we got hungry, we'd get a long pole with a scythe at the top end and then slice off a coconut from the bunch.
ReplyDeleteThat's what we do too! Our tree is not that tall. It's still possible!

Sounds like a lovely time and I like the haiku between bits of prose.
