Rain in September
Trudging through floods, a will to
survive and move on
Excruciating
Vagaries of the weather
Testing feeble souls
Human resolve, a
veneer so thin but of strength
beyond endurance
yeah. i've been wondering if we'll see wild weather in the coming weeks as we have for the past couple years. hang on!
ReplyDeleteUgg when it hits it is no fun, but we do find a way to move onto the next day
ReplyDeleteI see a lot of flooding here and there--you remind us that the human spirit is capable of rising to any challenge.
ReplyDeleteI knew you could produce this. Well done
ReplyDeletepowerful writing, and yes the human spirit can be quite amazing when tested!
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of resilience running through your poem. Loved it. Many thanks.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
Love the note of resilience in this poem - a quality I so admire in humans.
ReplyDeletethe last few Septembers have brought meteorological challenges to my part of the world (NE USA). Such disaster, and such courage to rebuild and reclaim. Great post.
ReplyDeleteDear Hank,
ReplyDeleteI remember the flood of 1970 in Kuala Lumpur, when I could not go to office due to the Gombak river overflowing into the Selangor Club Padang where my office was then housed next to it. With the storm tunnel now in operation, that is now history.
Feeble but strong, and so the rains and the human will test each other.
ReplyDeletedef makes for a hard life....the stories of those that struggle on though, they are inspiring...it is amazing what people can live with and live through....
ReplyDeleteThis kind of flooding happened here this year, too, Hank. People helped one another whenever and wherever they could. You're so right about human resolve.
ReplyDeleteK
Rain pours and then it keeps on pouring. In India too so many. too many get affected by the heavy rains..
ReplyDeletebut as u said..Endurance knows no measure in some cases.
The human condition.... Strongly tested for sure, Hank... Your poem is a lovely testament to that.
ReplyDeleteIt is a thin veneer~ YOU captured humanity in this poem!
ReplyDeleteWe are tested daily~
Rain, too much, is as bad in September as it is in July. In July 1979 we had 26 inches of rain with 33 inches getting into our home. We were out of it for six months but did recover.
ReplyDeleteFinally, I wrote a bit tonight for the Monday Toads.
Nothing great bit it is what I have.
