Image: A hermit crab in an unusual shell fighting
another hermit crab for a new home (here)
it is not a desired act
for the need to hijack
one that belongs to others
imposing dishonest measures
not legit nor acceptable
for in principle
tossing norms out the window
one is up against a foe
for one's selfish intentions
clearly in defiance
with a swagger one strode
to occupy another's abode
but is it something unforgivable
when one by nature is evolved
fleshy and soft with no outer cover
the next best thing to do
is to find a shelter
lest one gets into a fight
when showing a formidable might
hopefully it is as empty
as can be
Isn't it a beautiful thing
it may be ugly not to build one's own
but still beautiful to recycle
an abandoned 'home'

Must do what he has to in order to survive.
ReplyDeleteAh....I had to look closer at the image to see this. And yes....the beauty in recycling something used....would that we could all do this more often! Recycle....not fight for another’s home!
ReplyDeleteThe wonders of nature, well told.
ReplyDeleteVery nice...love the last few lines, 'though not building onee's own, beauty to recycle and abandoned home'
ReplyDeleteNot a wonderful scene... just what nature can be... cruel for the loser.
ReplyDeleteNice last stanza. Recycling is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHermit crabs are such fun little critters! Nice poem.
ReplyDeleteCan sure leave one screwed in the end, but reusing can at least make it a little better. For the re-user anyway.
ReplyDeletenature is a good teacher. what seems harsh and unjust to us is just survival for most creatures. very thought provoking lines Hank
ReplyDeleteSo much of nature seems ugly and unfair...but survival is truly something beautiful... as is recycling. I enjoyed this, Hank.
ReplyDeleteA very good article. Thanks to the author.
ReplyDeleteThe home or house looks good to the creature, and it looks good to me too.
ReplyDeleteA fine post Hank, well done.
