(Hank decided to take more
than the minimum 4 words)
an aspect of October plunged into
colors of twilight with hues of brown
detesting frost gravel-like even
with a touch of cotton's softness
lucid moment in its madness
of frightfully expecting the white
of frost to envelop the landscape
a leaf with its hues of brown
changing colors at great speed
floated down wanting a quick kill
it should sleep well prostrated
on the ground among little
creatures hurrying to comforts
of hibernation
set to tone down surprises of
seeing bare branches devoid of
leaves it was but just a mild
compensation of an annual
phenomenon

ReplyDeleteAnd sure a sight to see as it comes to be
ReplyDeleteI love those colors of October.
ReplyDeletehibernation... the leaves do have a purpose!
ReplyDeleteI like the structure of this poem - October starts tentatively and then storms in. I love the use of colour and texture in the opening stanzas.
ReplyDeleteYou have a wonderful way of expressing your verses Hank.
ReplyDeleteA real pleasure to read.
Yvonne.
I like your ending, Hank. We shouldn't be surprised but we are, most every year.
ReplyDelete..
I like the idea behind "comforts
ReplyDeleteof hibernation". I hadn't thought of them as "comforts" before.
I think you captured the autumn... though it's just an annual thing we still feel it deep in our bones.
