with a Runny Nose (here)
the 10 of 12 given words:
misty breeze child runny spray
sing drive eggs movies find
a misty morning with a slight breeze
air of silence like a child with runny nose
wanting a spray to clear the passage with ease
but never satisfied with the given dose
sing a song of praise to the spirits
in the hope it will drive off the affliction
or perhaps take a couple of boiled eggs
as in the movies to clear the congestion
the common cold one finds very irritating
is but an ailment more of the moment
rather than one that is life threatening
often brushed off as being just a nuisance

It's the cold season all right.
ReplyDeleteAh, the nuisance of common cold is indeed like that.
ReplyDeleteI liked this: "sing a song of praise to the spirits/in the hope it will drive off the affliction". Hope it works though.

I've never read a poem devoted to the common cold before. Good one, Hank!
ReplyDeleteYes, colds are annoying and this poem makes them much easier to have!
ReplyDeleteThis one of the reasons I prefer commuting on bicycle rather than public transport.
ReplyDeleteYep, sure plenty of germs about and the common one is a nuisance.
ReplyDeleteI love "sing a song of praise to the spirits".......I like this ode to the common cold. Like de Maupassant, you have proven a writer can write a story or poem about anything.
ReplyDeleteLove the way in which you pin the poem to the dual interpretation of the title. And that image is totally fab! Cool post, Hank.
ReplyDeleteHahah...
ReplyDeleteZQ

Hello True.
DeleteThank goodness that a common cold is a short-time malady!! It does not last long.
ReplyDeleteWow what a photo and the idea of the sky having a runny nose makes me think.
ReplyDeleteboiled eggs to clear congestion... must try that!
ReplyDeleteThe photo was brilliant, and I remember many many years ago kids at school with noses dripping happily spreading the virus so we didn't miss out either!
ReplyDeleteNow this is inspiring!❤️ Thankfully the common cold doesn't last very long!❤️
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love tha first stanza, though I like the entire poem. So well done.
ReplyDeleteWhat we need is spring, Hank.
ReplyDeleteI think nuisances, when it comes to illnesses, tend to be even more frustrating... at times. One just can't help feeling that something that isn't as serious could be so annoying.
ReplyDeleteThe common cold might not kill you – but it can make you feel like death!
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly cold here Hank. Great read.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
I like this. Colds are nuisances indeed.
