Image: Hank's own soft pastel sketch on an A4 size dark drawing paper
Note: In grappling with a new form with repeat endings I decided to revamp an earlier poem (here) together with the sketch for a quickie offering. Hoping I'm forgiven this time for an easy way out.
Glistening with pride hidden a taste, spicy
Fondness for chili peppers amidst fine servings
A capsicum sneaky of yellow, red and green
Gives a kick at lunch mixed with other greens
A salad bowl for a taste bud for hot and spicy
Creates a howl for those timid in their servings
Hotplate with meaty offerings of fine servings
Gnashed, gnawed spicing up the chow of varied greens
Fitting for a King at a lunch sitting all that’s spicy
Spicy servings an adventure with greens

ha i love the spice man....we used to have a pepper garden when we lived in FL....and cooked with them often...all diff kinds...nicely done to form man...
ReplyDeleteTexans love peppers - turns out to be so very good for you - we don't restrict them to lunch - they go out in breakfasts, lunches, supper, and late nite snax. You must try a stuffed jalapeno..cheese and shrimp - yum!
ReplyDeleteLovely use of the form and a mighty fine still life of the pepper!
Enjoyed this, Hank. The first time I ever heard the word 'capsicum' was when I was in an Asian country. Perhaps Thailand? I love them hot...and those we had in Asia were especially so. You worked the form well and definitely tweaked my memory!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever tried an orange pepper and Cheese whizz spread on it? Delicious. Now I'm hungry. Great artwork too Hank, you are a man of many talents!
ReplyDeleteMy tongue can't take spicy stuff but I do like the adventure with greens ~ Nice form Hank ~
ReplyDeleteNever have eaten them on bit
ReplyDeleteProb give my mouth a fit
But sound like they go over well
You never know, maybe one day atmy cell
Your last line is my favorite in this fun read of, I think, a rowdy salad.
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Uncle Hank, that capsicum sizzles! The poem too. Errr.....wanna sketch me instead? har har har *evil laughs*
ReplyDeleteNot just the dishes, you spiced up the poem as well! Excellently done.
ReplyDeletenice...cool sketch and cool tritina as well...and peppers are awesome
ReplyDeleteA double dose of talent with the sketch as well:)

ReplyDeleteNice pastel sketch... and an excellent variation on the tritina. It was interesting to see the evolution from your earlier poem into the tritina, the choices that had to be made to fit the end-line format, the make-up of the envoy, the differing line-lengths. All in all, well done.
ReplyDeleteChillies, capsicum, lada.
ReplyDeletewe cqn't do without them!
Spicy!
* We can't
ReplyDeleteSo good, Hank, and I love your pastel. That's one media I never had much luck with...might be fun to try again. The form seems to have lent itself to food/spice poetry.
ReplyDeleteSpicy and I like the skecth--also how much action this poem has--all the verbs ending in -ing seem to make it feel it has a life of its own--just like the pepper enlivens the dish. Loved it, Hank.
ReplyDeleteYou have shown that sketching is yet another talent which is beginning to unveil itself.
ReplyDeleteI too love capsicum....this i enjoyed a lot.....:-)
ReplyDeleteHank, your painting is totally wonderful. We should have featured it in the interview.........your poem totally captures the flavors and spicyness. Just wonderful!
