Author: why don't we
Image: Yes! Why shouldn't we!
He thought he had it made
Sweetie Pie, he even gave a name
But she would rather have him dead
What did he do wrong?
Whispering sweet nothings?
Choice of words
was a culprit all along
But why so unforgiving
Not compromising so intriguing
Nothing promising?
But he was not about to give up
Faint heart be given a nudge
Plodding on would be smart
But he was not about to give up
Faint heart be given a nudge
Plodding on would be smart
Time would be the judge

Oh this could be a story You make me curious now. Why does she want him dead? What did he do wrong? Many questions
ReplyDeleteI echo Marja's curiosity! But some things, I think, are just mysterious and can never be solved. So I'm not sure if the plodding on is wise, but good luck to him!
ReplyDeleteGreat verse Hank, the words"He Was Not About To Give Up"
ReplyDeleteare words one should heed when life is not going one's way.
Take care.

Yeah the heart is stupid like that.. plodding on in hope even when the other wants him dead!!! Why shouldn't we, indeed!!!
ReplyDeleteOne has to wonder. Is "wants him dead" the sort of hyperbole some people use in a lover's quarrel, or is being around her really dangerous for him?!
ReplyDeleteIn the context of "why don't we" and "she would rather have him dead" I hear the age-old male complaint that men don't want to build the home before they start bringing babies into it. Deal with it, dude!
ReplyDeleteI might plod along and trying but I would keep one eye open for another. She may just not be right at all, doesn't act like it. I wasn't keeping one eye open the second time I was single. I was busy, working 50-60 hours sometimes when a spacecraft was up. Also I had gone back to college, law school, and wasn't looking at all. Then she showed up when my class was dismissed at a supper for which I was hoping my roommate might keep me a plate. I did have one waiting but also they had my new Mrs. Jim there too, we met and the rest is still going. 50 years plus.
ReplyDelete..
Love a poem that makes me ask questions, dream up my own answers! This one qualifies, Hank.
