on the dance floor
were just horsing around
thinking it was easy to dance
aping with leaps and jumps
bugging the wits of old couples
who still held on to the grace
of holding hands and dancing
close together
but eventually and unwittingly
hounding them off the floor
they on their own did not
cause a scene but wormed
themselves slowly away
from all the din of present day
wild dancing moves
Let them enjoy themselves
after all we were also young
once ourselves so they reasoned

Good lesson, Hank. Those old folk out to pullet down and be hushed.

Yes, we were there once; now we're here... Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed reading.
ReplyDeleteAh, lovely. i like the contrast in energies, and the grace (in every way) of those older folk.
ReplyDeleteI like the switch of focus and the contrast in this poem, Hanks, from the antics of those wild youngsters, full of action, to the old couples ‘who still held on to the grace’, and the resolution that ‘we were also young /once ourselves’.
ReplyDeleteVery true to life, Hank! 🙃
ReplyDeleteAll best,
David
