Image: The lighted highway (here)
stretching far into the night. The hum
of engines and the rush of wind
create a symphony of motion and sound
The lighted highway never sleeps
It's always bustling with life with the flow
The lighted highway never sleeps
It's always bustling with life with the flow
of cars and trucks all through the night
But amidst the chaos and the noise there's
a sense of serenity too as the headlights
illuminate the way
With its twists and turns and bends
With its twists and turns and bends
the lighted highway invariably leads us to our
journey's end.

There's something so evocative about a highway going off into the distance, kinda stirring and haunting at the same time. You've captured it beautifully in this poem.
ReplyDeleteIt is compelling how streaming vehicles down a highway, each car or truck on its own, is noisy and chaotic but serene when viewed from a distance or poet's perspective.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's true: what matters is the journey (and the landscape).
ReplyDeleteI actually felt the sense of serenity in your poem.
ReplyDeleteThere is something magical when driving from day into night - a closing in, being enclosed, more intimate of a space. You caught that in this poem.

ReplyDeleteThe roads are longer than life
They never stop without reaching a destination
May be there is no destination
Only roads to keep on traveling
Throughout life
