open season to the unscrupulous out for a grab

D for Destiny's Child

innocence imposed upon a young being
learning the ropes without a proper guide
thrust into a world lovely but mystifying
open season to the unscrupulous out for a grab

innocence is not a crime for the untutored
punishment meted out ought to be justified
caught on the wrong foot the bane undesired
victims are the unfortunates mostly misled

  13. This was a surprise, Hank. I liked it, if it could be true I would be forgiven all my youthful mischief.

  14. Hank,

While true, I know first hand sometimes children are taught but refuse to heed the lessons of their elders. Nice poem and I love the image, which makes me think of Christ so often referred to both creatures a lion and lamb.
