idiocy in communication
imposed by the pesky lockdown
it got out of fashion
florists were out of town

social media provided the vehicle
virtual bouquets were sent
complete with pictures and words
courtship took on a new turn

holding hands as a first move
was a thing of the past
hands handy on keyboards
seemed more sensuous
the reach was wider
and not to worry it did last

young lady it was no way to sulk
rules imposed which made it sad
social distancing no freer as a lark
being happy with smartphones and iPads

a letdown to young lovers in a big way
perhaps even fewer kissings
exposed to the new normal to their dismay
not aware of what they had been missing!

Happy Valentine!

  1. A sad reality Hank, hopefully, lovers can unite beyond the screen some day.

  2. Yes, I hear you here Hank. The connections we make have become so different than the past. It is a shame indeed. Your poem speaks truth and does it amazingly!

  5. It must be hard on courtship during lockdown. A hard time to be young altogether. Good one, Hank.

  6. Ah, the "new normal" seems to have taken all the magic out of Valentine's Day, has it not? Cyber wishes do not fit in a box of keepsakes!

  7. Ah yes, so much is missing in that.

  8. I really hope this social distancing is temporary. It's not fair to the young people. You capture that well in your poem, Hank.
