What had become of life
Moments together all happy
But amid whispers brought by the wind
Of human weaknesses
Of human unfaithfulness
Not believing these were true

Rumors invoked of ulterior motives it seemed
Could not possibly be gulped down at face value

She stood him up once, only once
He felt slighted, all smiles, all forgotten
Contrary to expectations all not forgiven
Why must conscience be abandoned?

So relationships were always on the line
Forgiveness sold but not bought

Hurt stabbed hard on the jugular
Potent and fatal
No turning back

It was that easy to have it all ended

MLMM's Tale Weaver #158  -  abandonment
Kim's at d'Verse's OLN #213

  1. Don't scorn a lover or you may end up toast.

  2. I liked the line "Forgiveness sold but not bought".

  3. It's a wonder that it works at all... our relationships have so many ways to fail

  4. Trust...
"What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies."

  5. excellent response to this prompt Hank, thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with the tale weaver.

  6. Any sort of relationships can and do fail as I well know.
    Wonderful verse Hank.

  7. Yes, the “end,” can come unexpected, without warning. But I think it is the same for “beginnings.”

  8. Like Kim said - Relationships are tricky things.

  9. It is a wonder anymore that there is much consciousness with all the fake news...
We abandon faith in those things we once trusted.
    Just like lost lovers..
Very nice write. Thanks for visiting :)

  10. One never knows why one goes away, leaving the other to find a new path. It can take a long time to heal from the pain.

  11. Betrayal is a wound that takes a long time to heal, if it heals at all.
