Refusal to admit, a cause so lame

“The moon is to blame.  I am innocent”  -  Jim Harrison from Songs of Unreason
(Day 14)

To extract a confession
Is not difficult so to speak
No necessity to 'force' on their conscience
Nor waving threateningly a big stick

When they take a defensive stance
Pushed to the wall
They go into fancy footwork as in a dance
Trying hard to convince all

Blame liberally assigned to others
Finger pointing to them a fair game
Sense of responsibility blurs with excuses
Refusal to admit, a cause so lame

  1. Sometimes it is hard to accept blame...often easier to point finger at others.

  9. Your poem is an apt commentary on the evening news these days. Where blame lies is so obvious, but no one steps up to own it. Or ever will, likely. Sigh.

  10. I am so glad you found inspiration in the Harrison line and for joining in with the 28 Days of Unreason. Your poem does a wonderful job of expressing a univerally understood human failing as many others have said, however, I am looking at the bigger picture of the title and photo that you chose to use. There are greater statements here that are more precise.

  11. This so aptly describes traits with which we in the U.S. are becoming painfully familiar.

  12. Excuses are easy to formulate. Taking responsibility is for the strong, not the weak.

  13. Blame is such an easy things (it seems), when some get to fling it around... away from themselves.

  14. Seems fewer and fewer people want to accept any part they may have in this life and their actions and words....blaming makes me doubt someone's truth...loved the end...

  17. I guess we as humans want to blame someone other than ourselves. Politicians are always blaming someone else.

  18. One finger points forwards at the blamed, three back at the blamer. Interesting piece.
