Image: He sprung into action (here)
(Bekkie's Image as provided)
the 11 of 12 given words:
line hope marooned sign deny
seem deal sky stream swing fill
He lined up his hopes of making a getaway
To be marooned on this island prison doing
nothing was a sure sign of a defeatist's attitude
Only Alcatraz had that unsavory reputation
to deny him the freedom so precious
What seemed to be a raw deal was to be
addressed as he was just a small fry
His bosses got away scot-free leaving him
to face the rap languishing in jail alone
Unfinished business in the offing so he
decided and he was unstoppable
When the sky had darkened with streams
of menacing red colors he would swing
into action - to fill the cravings to be free and
to right the wrong he so desperately yearned

I remember seiing Alcatraz whilst visiting SanFransico a few years ago. Most impressive to see as is your verse.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
I wonder if anyone did manage to escape from there.....
ReplyDeleteInteresting how some phrases carry through in everyone's pieces. I liked this one, Hank, as it held me right through to the end.
ReplyDeleteIt's a State Park now and I've toured it! It's quite the amazing place to see too!
ReplyDeleteWaiting for the second half of the story. But perhaps you stopped it while there was still hope? I never know whether to wish revenge will succeed or not.
ReplyDeleteToured Alcatraz last year. Impressive place to see. Sad to say that the place is not well taken care of.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, sometimes it's the small fries that take the rap for the bigger ones!
ReplyDeleteSuch an interesting poem, full of a lot of mystery and hope. I like this.
ReplyDeleteMarvelous use of the word list, braiding them into a fascinating tale of Alcatraz, trust betrayed and eternal hope. Bravo
ReplyDeleteOh, I definitely can understand those cravings to be free!
ReplyDeleteThe craving for salvation and freedom is so palpable here!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he ever succeeded.. maybe there are ways behind to reach beyond the bars
ReplyDeleteThe little guy always seemed to get screwed over, payback on the rich sobs is the way to be.
ReplyDeleteA Count of Monte Cristo in the making?
ReplyDeleteAn exciting write! Sounds like 'Birdman of Alcatraz' to me.
ReplyDeleteNice motivation for that dive trying to escape a prison.
ReplyDeleteSeeing him dive in the water my immediate thought was the film "Papillon" which I preferred to "The birdman of Alcatraz".
ReplyDeleteWonderfully done! Love how you left the true conclusion to our imagination.
ReplyDeleteInteresting story. I hope he succeeds in his escape. Then decides if vengeance is worth it.
ReplyDeleteIf he ever gets out, I hope his vengeance is the freedom itself...
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Makes me wonder what happened like flash fiction! Thanks for writing!
