3WW given words:
resolute promise jovial

resolute in his resolve
he promised himself
come the new year
he’ll turn himself in

no that’s not what he meant
no mistaking
he did not do anything wrong
neither is he a crook

it’s just that
he wants to prove to himself
he’s meant for better odds

he’s jovial
nice looking guy
pleasant in attitudes
of very good bearing
why can’t he be revered
and admired
despite his faults

yes, there are faults
but only unto himself
not impinging on others
well-mannered
basking in his own glory
and friends to many
yes, why not!

he has got his resolutions
all worked out
needs a little polishing though
but just about time!

Happy New Year everybody!

How did it come by
Nobody knew
A treasured find
Floating like a cork
bobbing in the sea

Like a rubber dingy
tossed about in a storm
It had come a long way

Lying forlornly like a sun-bather
Soaking it in by the shore
The two boys  picked it up
like a ragged doll

Chucked it off
Of no value to them

You picked it up uncorked it open
With bated breath perhaps a map
A pirate’s lair of untold riches

What did you find inside?
A light-house of no consequence
The two boys gave the cue earlier
Unwittingly they made a good decision
No free lunch made easy
Better luck next time!

You call me a draftsack is that it!
I’m not given to mischief
Neither am I a conceit
But I can well cause grief

I take a lot of zinc
More manly than my man
He said let’s  have a fling
I said that suits me fine

I’m not lethal
But I cause a lot of pain
My man told me to fizzle
Gobbled him later that’s my gain

I’m not a brick wall
Neither do I strangle
If you ridicule me at all
You’ll end up spread-eagled

My android’s a little edgy
I’m now at the intersection
I offer no apology
But I fight for my reputation

Man must earn a living too, right?

Image:  Courtesy of Tess' Mag (here)

Bjorn's given words:
dawdle  -  to move slowly, languidly, or saunter.
frankincense  -  an aromatic gum resin for perfumes
noel - the Christmas season; yuletide.
manger  -  trough or an open box in which feed for livestock is placed.
binnacle -  a housing for a ship's compass and a lamp
kafkaesque -  characterized by surreal distortion and a sense of impending danger
pachyderm  -  large, thick-skinned, mammals such as the elephant, rhinoceros

Not utterly concerned of life’s challenges
nor life’s problems
To nonchalantly dawdle pachyderm like
He moved ever so slowly
No sense of urgency
Nor a kafkaesque feel was  apparent
What a blessed soul to stomp about the earth

Heard say he was basking in wealth
at one time
Gave them away
on account of the noel festivities mostly
Now housed in a cubicle of a shelter
He got along he survived

An eccentric purchasing items not readily needed
Threw them away in a manger upon reaching home
That he did often times
A binnacle, a crate of frankincense and a host of others

The proprietor at the Pink Shop could just observe
when he made his purchases
shaking his head not really stopping him

Man must earn a living too, right?
It was all legit!

Its arrival alone on the quiet without a chime
A stray or perhaps a straggler looking for a bite
Not bothered of the cold but bidding its time

Unlike the old lady with a stocked  larder
Plain to see it made a grave misjudgement
Sudden turn for the worse of the weather
Meant an empty stomach in hibernation

No laughing matter with none to ingest
A scar on its conscience of a failed winter
Sigh! Pale element lacking foresight to invest
Utter regret often the wages of blunder

Where the fairer sex have excelled to great heights

Image:  Sunrise Over the Desert (here)

Bjorn's given words:
absinthe -  strong alcoholic drink that is green and has a bitter taste
joss  -   thin stick of incense burned to produce a pleasant smell
tinsel  -  pieces of shiny material used as decoration at Christmas
idler  -  not working or being used
riptide  -  tide that opposes other tides causing a violent disturbance at sea
bluey  -  a bundle of possessions carried by a drifter
nutgall – a gall which forms inside the buds of hazel bushes due to
presence of mites causing the buds to enlarge

Crimson yellow peeping over the horizon
Getting brighter by the minute but not fully
Just stirring up still dizzy feeling alone
It was already sunrise birds chirping incessantly

Effects of the absinthe made his head heavy
Incense from the joss-stick he wanted to dismiss
Felt like throwing up but kept his senses luckily
He had to go before daybreak he had promised

An idler not used to staying on the job for long
Helped with tinsel tying and decorations last night
Riptide of thoughts he was not where he belonged
His bluey on the ready waiting just to take flight

His inflamed nose still stinging as big as a night-gall
As yet to receive the stipend he was to get later
No reason to kiss the buds but how he regretted it all
For helping out but no one seemed to bother

Not any sun but in the hot and burning desert
Where morning dew could boil in minutes done
It crawled in drumble movements in little spurts

Sought ventilation just as some deprived homeless
A cactus perhaps or some concealed dim lit holds
Bankrupt of ideas but for both will to survive endless
Vile ways of society impacting on luckless souls

Faced with unjust world of unscrupulous racketeers

Where beads of sweat did not match their endeavors

A birthday joy celebrated around the world
Festivities extending beyond
From youngsters to contending adults
All vying for a share

Fairly persistent
Bewitching or bitching but a constant
It is an annual affair
Like it or not
One gets his own share

It is there lurking
One gets it on the anniversary
The question is,

‘Are you thinking of a birthday party for your goodself
Are you not happy to just let it go pass unnoticed
Are you not letting them wonder
Is it not playing into the bewitching
or bitching syndrome?’

A revelation of one’s aging or of having aged
All the efforts of plastic surgeries anti-wrinkle creams
Unwittingly thrown to the winds
All because grannies and gramps agree
To having ‘one thrown for them’
You may not have to!
All are but out in the open
A birthday party for the oldies!

Though shallowness of jibes still obvious

Seated around in  somewhat  mandala fashion
What he had in mind all along for a tortured soul
Crudely unperturbed but a perfect ambiance

Suddenly everyone were shocked!

                                                                   User: Itsmine
Image: The NY Stock Exchange  (here)

More than a munching and hard to stomach
More than just a mouthful leading to the New Year
Bread and butter issues seem to take center stage lately

Events dogged the headlines
Some found themselves in awkward and dangerous situations
Some others  punished violently
Physically they were life threatening or lives were snuffed
Hostage taking in Sydney which left 3 dead
Taliban attacks on schoolchildren with 129 dead
Suddenly everyone were shocked
But these were the immediate

Far worst came by earlier centered on killings
Garner in Staten Island
Brown in Ferguson
Rice from Cleveland
Compounded by unpopular Grand Jury decisions
That tore into the very fabric of race relations

Interspersed in between a Senate hearing
on waterboarding brought torture into the open

No fear for everyone else were likely to be tortured too!
Further and for far longer not unlike those at Guantanamo

Oil dropped to an unimaginable USD52 per barrel
With a prediction of a mind-boggling USD32 in 2 year’s time
And the Dow bubble hovering at 17,000 to plunge
to 6000 also in 2 years
Economic implications and trade imbalances
would bring issues impacting on life in general
and when the US sneezed we
in other parts of the world got the cold too

Bread and butter issues would greatly
feature from now on and Wall Street pundits were already smirking
‘don’t say we didn’t tell ya!’

Youngsters with hopes

Image: Santa with his Reindeer (here)

The given words:
aloof misshapen skim brume(mist, fog) envelope emblem
discreet anonymous clock throb chantage(Blackmail) temples

Aloof with the misshapen idea of creating angels
Aloof for not being seen
Extending the goodness of happiness
Skimming the brume of the darken skies
That envelops the nights
An emblem of honor

Smiles as wide as the blessed soul
Still accomplishing it most discreetly
Anonymous through the years
Santa and his reindeer
around the clock
But only for fleeting moments

That is how he is remembered
Images of his presence playing on the minds
Youngsters with hopes
Asking for the world
Asking even for the impossible

For all the ho! ho! ho! spirit and festivities
Keeping them alive through the ages
Parents faithfully slogged
To meet the aspirations of their wards

Happiness throbbing in their hearts
More than made up for all their parent's sweat
In getting bigger stockings
To stoke the anticipations
Of a great present

Some children can impose certain chantage elements
But parents being parents take them for love
Temples of faith for the believers
Greenery of thankfulness
Are what parents hope for
Early Christmas feel blowing in the air

hoy- a barge used in harbors
vale- a valley
browbeat- to intimidate
poromeric- synthetic leather substitutes.
scintilla- a minute particle
nightshade- of solanaceous plants

Lost in the wilderness
In utter silence
Not unlike in a drunken stupor
Algid in repose
Time stood still

In his semi-conscious state
He was painfully aware
It was peaceful
A vale in the morning mist
He laid still as on a hoy
Slow-moving

Flashbacks of the night before
played on his mind

Browbeaten into submission
Kind words followed with violence
Poromeric and rubber hoses
Used lavishly

Not a scintilla of remorse
On their part but
He ended in a crumpled mess
Even nightshade torn from the ground
Found his puffy eyes and swollen lips
All because of an innocent remark…

Resembling a meteor hurtling to Earth
The planets are in a frenzy
There are a lot of wrong doings
A lot of happenings in the world
Righteousness is sidelined

The lunatics are having it their own way
Others are utterly confused
There are winners and losers
But not all are lost

The lovers are just as busy forever together
Angels without a care in the world
They care just for themselves
They exhibit their desires without recourse
They endeavor to show their feelings
To spread love and affections
Sometimes blatantly in public places
They come with a bang and say it
And they are fondly forgiven

Don’t mess around with those madly in love
Never get entangled
or to unnecessarily tangle with them
They live in their own sacred world!
They are happy
They expect others to be happy too!

I just can’t stand them and I mean them
All of them no exception!
Both those inside as well as those outside
Let’s talk of those inside first

They leave us by ourselves through the night
Nothing happens even in the morning
We see them only in mid-morning
Just a bucket full and they just throw them in
Smelly, dead and cheapest in the market
And they expect us to gobble
all that with relish!
Sheesh!

I like my fish fresh
I like them swimming having fun
I will then catch them with a swipe if small
Or pick them by the tail and
bring them up to the surface

They do it all wrong here
This is what we go through everyday
Having dead fish most of them rotten
by our standards

And we have not even talked about
Those humans on the outside

How we hate the week-ends
That is when they come in droves
And the kids they were cute before
But not anymore

They expect us to get on our back flippers
Clap our fronts and smile
Just for them to take their own selfies
with us in the background

And some even goad us to talk
‘Honk! Oink! ‘ They shout at us
They think it is funny

We only talk when we are happy
Not for some selfish kids for their selfies!
Sheesh!

She is set to keep on going by herself
I still follow her tracks the path seems undisturbed
I check how the clump of trees react
I stand alone by an elder tree, I do not dare breathe
Fearing not to alert her
My lung bursting I can only gulp piranha-like
Free air swirling above my head
Still able not to splash about with the frenzy
Of cornering a victim

She stands and looks back just a wee bit
Not too far in front
Taking her time to determine the coast is clear
Awkwardly she steps out but missing a step
Sprawling unceremoniously on the ground
Of her face, and now she steps into the air, now she is gone
Nonchalantly sweeping across the puddle of brackish water
Looking back victorious in her desire
To slip out of my grips

She jumps floats and skips
Like a gazelle out of a trap but laughing
Knowing fully well no hunting dogs are in pursuit
It is a trivial matter too small and uncomplicated
But still she lacks the conscience
Karma will invariably catch up
I lay down my arsenal
To take a rest
I will not persist in hot pursuit

A work of art nature is smart

Image: Fair use Courtesy of Real Toads (here)

Note: "Lake Hillier in Western Australia is
bubble-gum-pink and it's literally just a few
steps away from a 'normal' colored Southern
Ocean. Scientists speculate that it’s color is
caused by a reaction of sea salt and sodium
bicarbonate and/or caused by red halophilic
bacteria in the salt crusts"  -  Real Toads

Wonder of wonders what of it here
Appearing chewy as a chewing gum biggie
Seen from above but a body of water
Two of a kind in the world just plain crazy

Scientists have an explanation obviously
Algae beneath, bacteria-like creatures perhaps
For the carotene blessed colors seem uncanny
Something’s got to give and that was that

Strangely enough when samples were taken
Hues of color seen just as plain as any lake water
What of it then at the bottom causing the hindrance
Weird still, assurances given to swim in it not a bother

Plainly a work of art and nature is smart
Blushing pink a little girl's privilege
A phenomena leaving many mystified

                                                                                          Attribution: Darjac

Who says only one
of a kind to stay good friends
Snow White shows the way

Aftermath of nights
Snow as far as the eyes can
see, pureness in white

Shoveling is fun
Perhaps when only knee deep
A chore otherwise

Blunt in his retort

                                                                                      Attribution: Carlos Delgado

3WW given words:
blunt drunk lethargic
Poetry Jam:  quiet

Blunt in his retort
Drunk with emotions
Lethargic in thinking
Not about to be quiet

Give it to the world
Anyone cares for keeps
Not opening for others
Just keep to your side

World in conflict
Enough bother to date
Set in his thinking
Not in many forms

Just within sights
Keeping it simple
Trumpeting thoughts
All in earnest!

Floating snow flakes

                                                                                               Attribution: Serge Melki
Image: Falling snow (here)

Inspiration from Robert
Frost's short poems
Downward spiral
Floating snow flakes
Felt smoothness with
enhanced whiteness
of surroundings

Little creatures
Hidden from view
Hibernation
Now in progress

Man rightly seen
Preparing for
grand Yuletide cheer

Inspired by Richard
Wright's  haiku
                                                           the morning after
abundance of snow last night
coolness in the air

on clapping my hands
on a cold Winter’s morning
blood surged to my head

light sense of freedom
white fluffy snows on branches
                                                         pureness strongly felt

Schedule packed with activities

                                                                                          Attribution: Brian Kerrigan

The given words:
stone  casual  spare  revolving  beggar
block traffic key fever chapped  souvenir

Not etched in stone but still it
was not just a casual encounter
He spared no efforts  to determine
that his presence revolving around a
schedule packed with activities
was well taken care of

Being a beggar to uphold strict principles
he blocked off certain unnecessary
encroachments of heavy traffic
bidding for his time

Discipline was maintained by Girl Friday
key to his time management

A fever pitched day was broken up
into little sectors to impose and
maintain sanity
Too much talking could result in
chapped lips as a souvenir
