The elusive dream
Hovering up in the clouds
Within easy grasp?
If only we trudge
Through soft mud and tire marks
In the morning mist
By noon some results
By evening the light shone
As bright as daylight
The world opened up
To the American dream
All equally blessed

yeah good luck with that equally blessed, i think we have a long way to go to get to that....the american dream is def not the same as it used to be...
ReplyDeleteA beautiful thought, well expressed.
ReplyDeleteYes, we are blessed to have had a dream to reach for, more blessed than we know according to some immigrants. I like the day/lifetime allegory of the journey on the road toward it. Did you mean to move from present tense verbs in the 1st two images to past tense verbs starting with "shone"? If so, I'll have to rethink my interpretation, but I believe this is a gem.
ReplyDeleteNot sure it even exists any more. And as Brian said, good luck with the equality.
ReplyDeleteHave been following your poetic progres in the haiku craft, Hank, and am very impressed. Your creative imagery gives me a mystified satisfaction - a sense of awe.
ReplyDeletethe american dream and equality dont really go together...it generally means death and disaster for millions.was it supposed to be ironic?
ReplyDeletethat apart, there's admirable craft and poise in your measured lines.
I enjoy the challenge of composing haiku ~~ you presented us with something very nice.
ReplyDeleteThe 'I Have A Dream' dream lives.
I like the trudging through "soft mud and tire marks in the morning mist".
ReplyDeleteThoughtful piece...well done Hank...
ReplyDeleteIf only! I love that first haiku.
ReplyDeleteFood for thought, certainly. The sad reality is that equality remains a dream everywhere in the world. A person's sidewalk is the ceiling of another. Sad, sober truth.
ReplyDeleteIts an elusive dream for most, still ope is bright as daylight ~
ReplyDeleteNice haiku set Hank ~
Elusive and within easy grasp ... so near and yet so far? Here's being optimistic - hoping we all get closer to equality now that those who came before us.
ReplyDeleteWell, I certainly liked this! A lot to think about. All one has to do is SIT in a public school classroom. Many of the kids shouldn't be there as they have NO interest in learning (nor their parents want to bother with raising and disciplining their own children). I think we can see who will be sticking their hands out in a few years blaming everyone but themselves.
ReplyDeleteDon't get me started...
Hank, first off, welcome to the world of controversy, hee hee. You little firebrand. The poem is lovely, but I wish I could share your optimism, Hank! America IS a dream. It is no longer reality... while it's true I don't have to wear a burqa, by and large, the folks with good ideas are being shoved out by dweebs with inherited wealth. Do I detect a note of sarcasm in this work? Peace, Amy
ReplyDeleteWonderful set of haiku Kaykuala. Love the story line in it.
ReplyDeleteWell used theme.
Thank you for sharing.
There is so much to this piece ... while hope and determination shine through, one reads this through a lens of political and social cynicism ... I'm struggling through the mud here.
ReplyDeleteGreat write!
Wow! lovely haiku ~ very insightful ~ thanks, ^_^ (A Creative Harbor)
ReplyDeletea beautiful dream, if only it were true.
ReplyDeleteHank, a nice write...and I wish it was still true..the american dream..not what it used to be.
ReplyDeletei wish that all where equally blessed...but guess even in america..they're not..
ReplyDeleteWe can envision an America of equal blessings. But, for now we have to work at attaining that.
ReplyDeleteI like the first haiku the best. Nice job here Hank.
The photo is amazing....Definitely a beautiful and hopeful thought....If only...
ReplyDeleteI like the way you linked the haiku to tell a story. Fun process to consider and to read.
