Wild flowers racing with each other “Write love letters to wild flowers”. - Marja
Poppies evoked the poignant
feel to relate to heroic exploits
but the drug scene put paid to what
Poppies stood for
in fighting mood for barren space
Eager show-offs in Spring with
offer of first greens right from
nature’s sincere heart
But thoughts of red colours of
Poppy Day is now long forgotten
How do we write love letters to
wild flowers to let them know that
Poppy Day is a thing of the past

O Hank, this is glum stuff. We sort of have a Poppy Day here in the states, in the U.K. it is almost sacred. Mrs. Jim bought a plastic poppy there and it has lasted for many years. I've lost mine!!

We don't have poppy day but we do have Anzac day Everyone wears a poppy to remember the soldiers who lay in a field of poppies. I love how you wrote "eager show offs in Spring...nature's sincere heart
ReplyDeleteWe still have Poppy Day in Australia. I tend to forget that poppies are also associated with opium. Whatever they do or don't stand for, they are pretty things, and I like the silken feel of the petals.
ReplyDeleteI like "nature's sincere heart". In Canada, it is Remembrance Day when poppies show up. Many wear them as a symbol of respect to those who sacrificed everything for the rest of us. Poppies also are a vivid reminder of the film Wizard of Oz.
ReplyDeleteWow, I've never even heard of Poppy Day.
ReplyDeleteI have heard of Poppy Days, but only by reading about it. I wonder if it's because there are very few of the veterans left to hand them out? Is that what they used to do?
