Image: Merrily doing a selfie (here)
we've always been reminded
it can lead to a spat
that one discovers
such like life is made
a gaze of wonder
full of amazement
moment in time laced with
memories of days long gone
unpretentious subdued and quiet
festivities post pandemic
just days before
with the end of Ramadan
now the lull before the storm
still just as quiet
recording more snapshots
no more squinting behind the lenses
but for the presence of the smart handphones
to merrily focus on selfies
where everyone are in
without having to rush back
to beat the self-timer
that was how she had captured
many years ago of herself
in precious black and white snapshots
tattered at the edges now
there are not many of these anymore
now treasured for posterity
to whet the yearnings of curiosity

Good take on the younger tech generation.
ReplyDeleteYes, I expect the urge to record is closely related to our curiosity.
ReplyDeleteCool poem. I look at old family pictures with no story attached and I wonder what was happening, how everyone was feeling and being with each other, and all kinds of things.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting to look through old photos of family members from a time long ago. I wonder how all this digital stuff will be viewed in the future. Perhaps, it is just recorded in real time and doesn't matter.
ReplyDeleteno more squinting behind the lenses
ReplyDeleteI, too, get curious when I stumble across old B&W photos, especially in second-hand stores. Who are these people? What did they do? Were they haters? Lovers? So many unanswered questions!
