Image: Literally Sleeping on the Job (here)Sunday Whirligig given words:
demanding silence shoes holding pretend
play verses scarlet inscriptions stench scars
3WW given words:
amusing deeply elastic
Demanding on his person quietly amusing
Modern day watchman now variously known
as a security guard found deeply dozing
in silence with his shoes still on
'What does the watchman see?' good question
Without holding down any pretenses
No play on verses nor scarlet inscriptions
could water down seriousness of the offence
Sleeping on the job a stench of a blot
Might leave scars on those who worked with gusto
Not to be excused as it was an inelastic black dot
Not to be forgiven he should be sacked pronto

I'm impressed how your entertaining poem fits all 3 prompts so well! Excellent title and yes, a deeply dozing watchman like that will be sacked pronto - ha!
ReplyDeleteLazy and sleeping at any job can sure tick off those who do the work
ReplyDelete'What does the watchman see?' good question
ReplyDeleteWithout holding down any pretenses
Such a thought provoking question. Often a watchman is ignored and is not given his due praise and importance. Excellent write.
People are judged by their work ethic
ReplyDeleteIt is a choice we make that affects everyone around us. When we don't work others have to take is the slack and it lacks respect
ReplyDeleteClever & humorous, Hank, with just the right pinch of reality. This bozo would have to be called the Slumberman or the Sandman.
ReplyDeleteit's not natural for humans to stay awake at night I feel for the poor watchman
ReplyDeleteSleeping on the job, I see ~ Well it happens that is why security guards are always changing specially at night ~ Enjoyed the light tone hank ~
ReplyDeleteI think it makes some sense sacking a guy like that.. probably the wrong guy at the wrong job,

I like to think that maybe it is his break time and he's taking a much deserved nap. But perhaps sacking pronto is more appropriate. Peace, Linda
ReplyDeleteAh, what the watchman sees he probably keeps to himself. I like your take on this prompt, Hank.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I like the comical feel of this. Would love to take a nap at work. Great job combining different prompts.
ReplyDeleteMy guess he has two jobs to make ends meet and he has to sleep sometime; pity he chose his watchman shift!
ReplyDeleteI felt pity for the watchman though... sacking him may be a little more harsh on him... maybe tries not to sleep but he did because of some reason
ReplyDeletei see this as a metaphor for people who are not doing what they're supposed to in general - for whatever reason - and there always is someone else who has to pay for it
ReplyDeleteWhat does the watchman see? Dreams, obviously, since he's sleeping at the wrong place at the wrong time :) Poor fellow will have to lose sleep until he gets another job :)
ReplyDeletenice! something to all those who forget duty........
ReplyDeleteAAh! the culprit here is not the one sleeping but the 'sleep' itself as it comes at its deepest forms when the mind should be alert. Nonetheless a risky affair.
