Sunday's Whirligig 12 given words:
torn leaving everyone regrets tongues fleeting
brindled (gray with darker streaks or spots.)
gobbled danger cargo hearts flower
3WW given words:
perky (high-spirited,cheery,exuberant)
notable
notable
oddball (bizarre, non-conforming)
The Black Widow torn between two loves
with tales of destruction leaving everyone
dumbfounded but not living a life of regrets
Should it be having a lover
or should be left in hunger
It set tongues wagging for in a fleeting
moment it had all happened
The brindled male species was there beside her
and the next moment was there inside her
gobbled without conscience
with tales of destruction leaving everyone
dumbfounded but not living a life of regrets
Should it be having a lover
or should be left in hunger
It set tongues wagging for in a fleeting
moment it had all happened
The brindled male species was there beside her
and the next moment was there inside her
gobbled without conscience
At least the one in Hong Kong had it easy
Sliced in the night but he lived to tell
Only his male ego was bruised
He looked pretty much the same
from the outside fully clothed
The danger of an unfettered pleasure
and an unguarded moment
It was not in the cargo-hold but right there
at the spider's bridal chamber in
perky circumstances for two hearts
Pretty as a flower but prettier still
as fodder to the bigger-sized female
A notable oddball that could live
for three years as opposed to a vulnerable
male - for only three months on the
average if lucky enough

Have to watch those black widows, Don't want to go from loved to eaten.
ReplyDeleteI don't like spiders, especially ones like The Black Widow.
ReplyDeleteExcellent post all the same Hank.
Yvonne.
I'm really glad I'm not a black widow. Or a praying mantis. Although sex right before death is the way to go.
ReplyDeleteThe way of nature, smiles ~ I actually enjoy watching documentaries on nature and creatures as its very enlightening ~
ReplyDeleteI think I know her :)
ReplyDeleteWell done!

The spider and the web...I once watched a spider spin a web, I was fascinated by the intricate details.
ReplyDeleteI love this part: "The danger of an unfettered pleasure and an unguarded moment"
ReplyDeleteFor spiders la petit mort is followed by the real thing... has to be worth it I guess.
ReplyDeleteAlways fascinated me this subject. Life giving moment, seeding the future then death. Pure poetry right?
ReplyDeleteOoh, interesting! Is this true?
ReplyDeleteA notable oddball that could live

Yes, as following mating the male gets gobbled.
DeleteHank
It set tongues wagging for in a fleeting
ReplyDeletemoment it had all happened
The brindled male species was there beside her
and the next moment was there inside her
gobbled without conscience
My goodness I am intrigued! Excellent write, Hank :D
Presumably they die happy?
ReplyDeleteAnother classic poetic archetype tonight... Intriguing read, playfully realised...
ReplyDeleteWith Best Wishes Scott
Love can be a dangerous venture. Interesting response to the prompt, Hank.
ReplyDeleteOh, the sacrifices of...hmm...love? A fascinating write. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAgain you make something in the world very personal and revealing
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder, Hank. I had forgotten the life of those spiders. Humans have a parallel and although not eaten, some marriages and arrangements are very one sided, totally subdued, just as well eaten, by their mates.
ReplyDelete..
Especially liked this part:
ReplyDeleteThe brindled male species was there beside her
and the next moment was there inside her
gobbled without conscience
Such a cool turn of phrase there.
=)
amazing w0rd play here !
ReplyDeleteInteresting poem :)
I love this
ReplyDeletethe spider beside her became the spider inside her... in more ways than one!
