smiles...my brother wrestled for years....its a brutal sport...he has a few lifelong injuries from it actually...and the things they do to make weight...
ReplyDeleteFunny enough many love the sport. Spectators flocked to see. On TV everything seemed real but many feel these are faked. I never knew it could be hurting.

I used to watch it on television too for a time...the performances, I mean. It was almost like a soap opera with the 'good guys' and the 'bad guys.' One of my daughters had a major crush on one of the wrestlers for a while. Wish I could remember his name now! Your poem tweaked some memories, Hank.
ReplyDeleteThat's nice Mary! It was fun watching in the beginning. After a while the excitement waned. Glad it brought back memories to you.

I used to watch it on tv, when it was actually entertaining, but the stuff those guys go through, injuries and grueling schedule, no way would I want that.
ReplyDeleteAfter a while it was not entertaining anymore. Especially one gets put off by prospects of injury.

My grandfather LOVED wrestling.
ReplyDeleteYou can say that again,Lisa!

ReplyDeleteouch ! I cant stand such sports !

I'm afraid I have to second Nimue's opinion! :)
DeleteWill You Think of Me?
intimate violence! excellent haiku set!
ReplyDeleteI'm leery of physical contact sports...had to nurse a 14 year old with a broken neck when I was a young nurse...good representation, though.
ReplyDeleteHank, I am not a fan of contact sport, but I do like how you have written about it here.
ReplyDeletePamela
It's quite a sport. I especially like your last one.
ReplyDeleteWrestling is a dangerous game ... lots of injuries ... but its played with passion !!!
ReplyDeleteBrutal to play !
ReplyDeleteWonderful creative 'take' on sport ~ well penned ~ (A Creative Harbor) ^_^
ReplyDeleteMy son does ju-jitsu--rough sport in any language--excellent write!
ReplyDeletethankful for you hank...smiles.
ReplyDeleteI am not much of a wrestling fan, but you've really outdone yourself with the freestyle theme! It's perfect!
ReplyDeleteThe Greco-Roman style interests me, not that I'm about to fancy pinning someone down, but you sooo nailed the freestyle theme, Hank.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great description of a real sport, Hank, which boxing to me is not. Wrestling involves balance, coordination, and offers only penalties to those who abuse the opponent. A noble sport indeed! Thanks for reminding me. Amy
