Stuck within the expanse of the water's
surface among greenery and little fishes
they dropped in chirping with stories to tell
they dropped in chirping with stories to tell
of a tired journey
A crowded evening they landed
by instinct to draw clues as to what
were there ahead
They laid back to rest against a
pile of drift-wood in the mud
their claws embedded
tired and spent
Amidst a secret rendezvous undisturbed
the flock of wild birds which landed
in twos for the solace of a lake enveloped
with a blanket of mist so serene
Resting awhile chomping a little a time
Resting awhile chomping a little a time
enough to fill in empty bellies
just enough for the night
To later continue their perilous endeavors
guided only by the natural instincts
befitting of migratory birds
Bjorn's at d'Verse Poet's Pub - Poetics:
Pilgrimage, revisiting your journey
Love this take on the poem. Am reminded also of the incredible migration of butterflies! So many animals who migrate...personifying them...what do they see? How do they feel? Are they exhausted at any moments before reaching their final stop? Do they take rest stops along the way? Do they rate the rest stops and remember them for the following years? Ah...you've got me thinking now!

DeleteThe migratory journey is an annual affair apparently! Just amazing they can follow the same route going out and upon the return journey as well
ReplyDeleteI love watching birds, have since I was a girl ... your poetic description of them is lovely, Hank.
ReplyDeleteI have seen them leaving for weeks... and I feel that they have begun to arrive at their winter habitat (but from here they probably go to Africa)
