message flimsy trips line
stilted (adj.stiffly dignified or formal)
wonder sing shine run trace
A likely message exhorted loud and clear
Of which nothing flimsy nor of any pretences
Found at the Traitors' Gate behind closed doors
Unfortunate band of souls with known offences
Regular trips to view on some guided tours
Where were lines of stilted visitors feet shuffling
To wonder of intrigues prior to entering the Tower
Or of one-time inmates at Alcatraz and Sing Sing
Many rouge galleries shine in modern times
Run with progressive precision of reformation
There are fewer traces of harsh treatments
Unlike those of old corrective institutions

I wonder... a prison is still a prison. Maybe it's the company I fear.
ReplyDeleteI can see certain faces in that rogue's gallery, lol. They fit perfectly there.
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah, 'many rouge galleries shine in modern times' ~ nice use of words as always. Ths for comments!
ReplyDelete... "unfortunate band of souls with known offences" ... so descriptive of the rogue's gallery!
ReplyDeleteWonderful and interesting to read Hank, congrats on including the given words excellently.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
I think that these days the traces are left in the minds of the inmates... and the pockets of the citizens.
ReplyDeleteYou have used the given words well, here. I do agree that many corrective institutions are not nearly as harsh as they once were - though, I suspect, there is always room for improvement.
ReplyDeleteInteresting one, and that is good!
ReplyDeleteHank, You have outdone yourself. Such an imagination. Who would guessed, words and all, we would be exploring corrective institutions.
ReplyDeleteSo interesting the comparison of old prisons and what you call modern rogue galleries !!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree.Interesting topic well written.

I think much has changed for inmates, but much remains to be reformed. Good write Hank.
ReplyDeleteYes, reformation is the goal of contemporary incarceration. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't.
ReplyDeleteSadly being a thieving rogue is still a tempting career for the young and once smitten they can't break the habit. The harsh treatment these days is usually from other inmates!
ReplyDeleteI would not want to be stuck on that island ;)
ReplyDeleteWe'll take a pass on ever joining the criminal mass. Safer to never.
ReplyDelete"unfortunate band of souls with known offences" ..is such an apt image!
ReplyDeleteIn spite of reforms, I would imagine there's still some harsh treatment going on that needs more reform yet!!
