.
To the kitchen he headed
To chase a drifting thought
But it broke his little heart
He spied a visual he dreaded
The flow of the draft
That lingered slowly pass
brought him into the fray
He could only muse in dismay

A bad sign, it spelled trouble
A room-mate had just left
An empty plate on the table
Brought home to consume
None left of the earlier edibles

He lost, it was one down
A fatal mistake he quipped
Should have tucked in earlier he frowned
His buddy rifled the goodies indeed
when he inadvertently dozed off

Note: A true story during student days

  2. Yup, that roommate who ate everything. Fortunately most of my roommates were decent people.

  3. Ugh, this reminded me of how me and my boyfriend of 12 years moved in together at our beginning days in a school dorm... While this evoked a not so good memory of the times I still think those were cool times.

  4. Nice one, Hank. I think a lot of people can relate to this one! The trick is to be into unusual foods that no one else likes. Like quinoa or lentils. But then there are some people who eat everything so you just have to hide your food!

  5. Hank I had to laugh while reading your poem. You've just proven you can turn anything into a poem lol

  6. It reminds me of military service when a guy found a piece of pizza in his jeans-pocket after a night out and had it for breakfast.
