Theme: Animals - R for Rabbits
crocuses pop up early, to inspire true spring joy
deer and rabbits attracted to flowers - are a nuisance
bitter with sharp fragrance marigold keep them out
honeysuckle planted at the fringes known to repel
but once inside tulips bulbs are most vulnerable
flower beds with colors often turned over in the nights
what tough luck to be victims of 'adorable' little critters
added to the woes are the ever-present little squirrels
nippy and fast one can never get it easy to win them all
Magaly's at Real Toads - weekend mini challenge
For A to Z Challenge - R
Hi, popping in from the A to Z challenge.
ReplyDeleteI was looking through the signup list when I saw your category had been listed as Animals. I got curious and decided to check it out. When I opened your page the image that came up was the "Okapi," I was so surprised. There is obviously a limited number of animals usable in the challenge. I love it, Geoff.
Well done!
ReplyDeleteLove your take on the prompt. Nippy little critters are definitely destroyers of gardens.
ReplyDeleteExcellent write, Hank!
ReplyDeleteI always love how your poetry is so good at sharing useful information. I didn't know rabbits (and deer) didn't like marigolds. I shall plant some in my in-law's garden to see if the other blooms can make it through the season without becoming wild snacks.
ReplyDeleteAll of these are little gems, Hank, but my favourite is the one about tulips, my favourite flowers, and honeysuckle – ours is about to bloom at the moment. It blooms twice over the course of summer and its scent is sublime.
ReplyDeleteYou look that good, you're going to attract attention.
ReplyDeleteLove these, Hank. Love and hate relationships.
ReplyDeleteLovely descriptive verse Hank, well done.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
Sadly I don't think that is a solution to rabbits here in Oz.

Yeah, they sure can nip and zip off, plus leave lots of turds about.
ReplyDeleteSounds like spring is hopping with flowers blooming and the critters. I hope they don't eat up all the bulbs. For us it's prairie dogs but Pinkie has convinced them to move out of the neighborhood unless they want to be lunch. Your garden sounds really cool with crocuses and honeysuckle

ReplyDeleteHello Hank!
The one and only Poetry Tank!
Yes those little critters are garden takers for sure. Just wanted to say hello, and that we have missed you over at the Sunday Muse. We also have a Wednesday prompt now hosted by Toni. It will post tomorrow, if you want to take a look. Have a good one Hank, and we hope to see you sometime soon. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Hank!
ReplyDeleteWhere is Hank, True? He'd better not be luxuriating on Bora Bora.
