Awakened from sleep
Wee hours of the morning
In cool mountain air

Shrieks from one so small
Repeated musical sounds
Nature’s orchestra

Heard from the thickets
Little creatures rarely seen
Among them crickets

For Chev's CARPE DIEM Little Creatures #1 Issa's  -  crickets

  1. yikes ... fried crickets ... when I lived in Chad some of my Chadian friends tried to convence me to try fried crickets ... but alas I was to squeamish. If you think about it though they don't look worse than fresh shrimp. Nah ... lovely haiku Hank ... loved the post it really gave me a smile this morning!

  2. Crickets.... what a treat
    Beats biting off my feet
    Or swallowing a dummy teat
    Unless you don't eat.... meat.

    How's life, Hankster!
Hank The Poetry Tank, have a great weekend!

  7. I love 'Shrieks from one so small'. they can be so noisy but I love the sound from a distance, and also when one small one overwintered behind our refrigerator sounding like summer
