all in the blink of an eye!

First Line Friday
Your line for this week is:
This day was summer when the sun shone and biting
winter when clouds overtook the sky, a tumultuous
mix of seasons in the span of an afternoon.

the 10 of 12 given words:
game darkens, disintegrate smoke coffee grows,
seedy (poorly kept run-down shabbily dressed)
jazz cracked traced

This day was summer when the sun shone and biting
winter when clouds overtook the sky, a tumultuous
mix of seasons in the span of an afternoon.
Could you believe that all in the blink of an eye!
It did happen like a game to be taken from a sunny
side up bright and clear very much a summer event

Then in a jiffy, it darkened and disintegrated into
a smoke-screen, coffee black in certain areas and
all that within the afternoon.

Amazing! What got into the weather these days?

Unkempt like a seedy old tramp jazzing himself
Cracked a joke that ran flat, grinning sheepishly

Sympathizing with the  unfortunates was a kind
accord to give so also to a confusing order of the
change in weather conditions

Perhaps it could be traced to climate warming
currently taking shape with the thinning of the
icebergs in the north.

Hopefully, no untold damage to humankind
God forbid!

attractancy (n)) the capacity to attract)
perturbation (the state of being worried)
bolt proceed treasure branch place

to dangle in the courtyard in folly
pleased to be clothed with colors
a place not open to an attractancy
but still subject to mental horrors

labored with inspired perturbation
in a trance seemingly bolted together
to proceed hermits-like in meditation
clouded in unusual stance to treasure

peace of mind secured like a yoga
self-imposed branch of punishment
city life existence pushing it too far
but to each his own not to lament

believing to have a smooth ride

Image: A Slip-on  (here)

Note: A slip-on is typically a low
lace-less shoe known as a loafer

the 11 of 12 given words:
smooth ride bright chide tide maybe
just vial wormhole trial decide

believing to have a smooth ride
a lace-less slip-on is convenient
keep looking on the bright side
with a so-called loafer to loaf around

preference for shoe none to chide
now acceptable even as a formal wear
not have to say it's against the tide
maybe just a vial to make them aware

the wormhole is not a good prospect
trial and error when wanting to decide
once chosen there's none to object
but with relative ease care to abide

sweet youth the fury of innocence

fury line soar  shines embers
benediction (an utterance of good wishes.)
certainly wedge wait elation prophecy,

ah...sweet youth the fury of innocence
where are we to draw the line
to let it soar beyond redemption
or to let it labor on its shines

embers of anger burning profusely
turning a well-intentioned benediction
certainly into shambles of spent energy
driving a clear wedge between them

to stake a claim of rightful ownership
or wait around for contending parties
assigning blame in an outright big sweep
elation of victory an unassured promise

the prophecy of a winning hand is tough
goes haywire set astray by inexperience
youthful endeavor is  just not good enough
ways of the world a confusing aspiration

little ones are content to be followers

the 12 given words:
blow strike hazy water climb high
drain slide stick message line scraps

what a blow to strike a deal
that is hazy in all of its complicity
does not hold water in arguments
but a contention hollow in makeup

is it wise to climb high but drained
of resources to eventually slide back
never to stick tightly within grips?

the message is clear

there are both male and female
apples and it is not an embarrassment
but to toe the line to seek
solace in numbers

the bigger groups are expected
to assume the leadership role on
account of support from within

those little ones are content
to be followers to survive on scraps
of past due edibles blaming
society for their woes!

his strength spent his worries magnified

Image: Plain hard work (here)

spied a sad looking soul hard at
work oblivious of the surroundings
and none to care for the world
perhaps focussed more
on his immediate

cries of hunger very much cutting
deep into his heart just like the axe
heaved heavily into the log

choices of jobs very much restricted
his age for one was a limiting factor
he could do with whatever he could grab

he could perform easily the chores
given him, that would be the case
a decade ago but age caught up with him

his strength spent his worries magnified

up to a few months ago, he was a good
provider as a responsible father but was
unfortunate to bear fully the brunt

a casualty of the depressing state of affairs
the never-ending conflicts that found its way
to cause harassment of the industry
that provided his bread

despite being a model employee he found
himself all alone when the company folded
thus began the days of crying pain ever
since his retrenchment

and the soothsayers seemed vindicated
they had contended that the economic front
might not be that rosy forthwith

intimidating on what the future holds

                                                                    Author Christine from Vienna, Austria
Image: The moon as clear as it gets (here)

Reflecting on:
'what if the moon disappeared tomorrow?'

shocking waves of wonder
intimidating on what the future holds
fears swirling across all asunder
as wide as the universe to unfold

can man on the moon find a transit
an abode to smile from and muse
where will the owl pine all of his wit
a let down on young lovers of such abuse

perhaps a lot of seriousness on others
targeting other planets to quench the thirst
a race to colonize Mars the first bother
to perfect time travel a reality first

his train of thoughts whined in helplessness

                                                                                                Author: Tom Pumford
Image: Regret (here)

Inspired by the quotation:
“The circle of an empty day is brutal and at
night it tightens around your neck like a noose.”
-   Elena Ferrante (The Days of Abandonment)

the 10 of 12 given words:
train turning move wild blocks
brickwork sent blue framed dusk

his train of thoughts whined in helplessness
without turning no moves devoid of mobility
sedentary and languishing in self-pity

wild ideas knocked within a confused state

akin to blocks of brickwork thrown hard
he held back his tears until blue in the face
the mind framed in confines of nothingness

that was the picture seen right until dusk
brutal by all accounts crying for a respite

by nightfall, it got blatantly worse with
a tightening stranglehold choking his senses

on reflection, he swore not to ever do it again
the penance was swift severe and immediate
Providence would want him not to repeat the wrong
to love and never ever curse at your own mother

strangleweed (the dodder,a plant in the morning glory family)
grimalkin (an old female cat: an ill-tempered woman)
augur (to conjecture from signs or omens)
cabal (a small group of secret plotters)
ether (the rarefied element formerly believed to fill up space)
tattered dripping curse

frequent rally winner works machine
where those others could just dream
a strangleweed like a grimalkin
augurs well on its own steam

not necessary for cabal connections
but in ether notions fleeting
extending awe with excitement
not tattered but dripping

with entertainment glory
devoid of curses but appreciation

the 12 given words:
apart chance barter
credence (belief as to the truth)
star fly sly shoot shy mar chart
cadence (rhythmic flow of a sequence of sounds or words)

apart from a chance of barter
sea-faring days of traders are numbered

credence to this claim is the better
of Amazon's place as the star
performer of an online business model

to fly high and nothing sly
nor of having to shoot
from the hip shy of murder
nothing to mar a peek into the future
in the manner of the exchange
of wares for money

they managed to chart a path
of expectations and convenience
for the man on the street
for which the cadence of the song
and structure helps smoothen the flow

the prodigal son had been away too long

To include the following
in a personification poem:
The long road to his home was a
twisting snake with no visible end

standing behind a tall oak tree musing
having waved its many leaves bidding a welcome
opening up its cool shade helping
to appease threats from an angry hot sun

far from family and friends
the long road to his home
was a twisting snake with no visible end
looking into his palms he moaned

the prodigal son had been too long away
searched his conscience to pinpoint
his diary helped opening up to his dismay
a  good five years of aimless jaunts

would he be readily accepted?
would in vengeance the door remained shut
avoid sensation with no regrets
his heart opened up whispering 'have the guts'

Pick the best brains forever be grateful - a Rubaiyat

           Image: In Serious Discussions (here)

Sentiments unraveled that of the bold
What had just happened was considered sold
Men of substance seen wildly in a rant
Seeking to verify what they were told

Tired of details folded in a bent
Infirmed and the sick not considered spent
Dreams of happy hours where they belong
To long and to hold a cup full of wine

Sense of being merry in part with songs
Presence of old friends was not out of turn
Discard the feel simmering in the air
Daring to pitch for some likely reforms

Matters to resolve swirling in the air
Discussions let it seem to be most fair
Pick the best brains forever be grateful
Seek the truth the outcome for those who dare

well how laughter table eat say darker

such a beautiful time
extending the mercy of a child
just alone with a younger brother

to sing and dance
a dare for all to see
in the kitchen

a rallying point well taken
how to have more fun and laughter
dancing on the kitchen table

there's food in the larder
say it loud
to eat and be merry

there is no darker side
but just having a little fun
mum and dad are not at home
